    I just noticed a threaded rod/bar sticking out the rear side of the back of the engine on my 1980 308. It spins when the motor is running, but isn't connected to anything. Is this what would have been the drive for the smog pump? The smog pump was removed prior to my purchase. I don't know how else to describe it.

    That is indeed the drive connection for the smog pump.
