I have a 1981 308 GTSI In reading through some threads someone mentioned that the pumps were actyally early model Chev pumps. Does anyone know which year Chev pump fits the 308.

It's probably from the same year as your car. Go to a junkyard and see if they have any 80 or 81 Chevy's you can pop the hood on.

I had the air pump check valve go bad on my '79 GTS and the check valve from my '82 Jeep CJ7 was a direct replacement.

The pump on my '79 308GT4 is a direct swap with a '78 Camaro, I believe.

I had an '81 308GTSi for many years. When I first bought, the previous owner had removed the drive belt. I think the belief was that the pump consumed a few HP. With the belt removed, the exhaust backflowed into the pump, thus freezing it up. In my quest to meet emissions, I was told that the pump was a GM pump, but I decided to just take the frozen pump apart and clean it up inside. It worked like a champ ever since. I would try to clean the existing pump if you have it, first. E. Doug.
