    Greetings all:
First post in this forum. There's an '84 Euro Spec Mondial QV for sale in Danville. The guy has an offer  on it but for NEXT time I need some information.

Would this car be a tailpipe only test? Visual inspection too?

I assume it wouldn't pass without cats, EGR, and a pump. Has anyone gone down that path? Would a big set of cats alone do it? Does anyone have all that junk around for loan or sale?

Thanks in advance for any helpful hints.

It's kind of a pretty car. I posted the url in the classic section

You might want to discuss this one with Rifledriver.

Smog Check II is very tough, and I believe this car would have to comply.

Since that car was registered in Oregon but garaged in CA (quite illegal according to DMV), it is apparent this owner is aware of the complications.

It may be quite expensive to make compliant.

You might want to pass on this one even if the offer does not pan out.

But again, check with the expert. He does speak Ferrari and English!

too much trouble in the end. Unless you have the BAR exemption sticker in hand (like for 412s and Boxers) you do not want to have to deal with it, particularly if you live in an urban county. It is hard enough to spec a US spec car with carbs. You do not want to know what I had to go through to get my ex 308 GT4 to pass. It seems like a bargain , but for $5 more grand you have a car with no stories.

I agree wholeheartedly with Luke... The car is a steal - yes - but don't go out of your way with a backup offer if the first falls through... If you have another place - somewhere else - like the seller, it would be easier to consider it, as you could register it there (i.e., a 2nd house in Bear Valley, Tahoe, etc.). If you're just in Danville, I would pass...too many headaches. These cars are supposed to be a dream-come-true when you finally get one...NOT a headache.
