My 308 just started smoking real bad. My worst fear is a blown head gasket. Temp gauge never indicated a hot temp, but maybe it is innaccurate. Oil is clean and I peeked in the coolant resvoir to see if any oil/coolant mixture and there was known. Engine was running fine with the exception of the trail of smoke following me. Also notice certain amount of moisture from the exhaust. Any words of wisdom.

Simple things first: Did you change or add oil recently? oil overflow or spillage on exhaust or headers?

When was the last time you have your valve seals done? Could be that. Do a leak down test to see where it's coming from.

changed the oil last week. After shut down I checked the oil and it showed what I would guess as 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart over serviced.

You may want to drain the excess oil. Do not fill it past the max line. I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I overfilled mine and I looked like an atomic bomb driving down the road. I put way too much oil in. It really looked like it might explode. After I drained the excess, I took a very embarrasing 20 minute drive to burn off the extra.
