Aside from Michael Moore, that's the biggest Rat I've ever seen.

I am not afraid of snakes as a general rule, but that would have shocked the hell out of me to see that snake peering through the window like that! Yikes!

Shocked, yes (been bit several times, that initial shock of the strike never lessens).
Intrigued, most definitely. I've worried more than one gf by moving a good-sized snake to a "more wilderness-y" place from backyards, a swimming pool, and a garage.

Beautiful example they had there - I hope they simply moved him, but can't tell from that last line.

Sounds to me like they killed him. Too bad. I bet he kept the rodent population under control around their house. The next thing we hear from this family will be that they have been invaded by mice! ;)

Typical ignorance...killing something simply because you can.

If you look on the ground in the pic of the guy holding the snake for measurement, you will see one of those crook things guys use to catch snakes, plus he's wearing a glove on the "head" hand. If it was dead, he wouldn't be holding it so, he would just stretch it out for the pic. Maybe it just got moved to somewhere else.

I find that on most subjects, I generally agree with you Jer, and in this case, I'm with you on the 'ignorance' part at least, but...

FWIW, the correct action when bitten by a snake that one cannot identify, is to kill the snake, and seek immediate medical attention, bringing the offender for identification and appropriate treatment relative to possible toxins.

I love snakes and what they do for us - hell, I will mow crooked lines into the lawn to avoid chopping one to bits - but I think what the guy did was appropriate in this instance.

    Cheers,

    -Tad

Had that happened to me, I wouldn't have to worry about identifying the snake. I'd be lying on the ground dead from a coronary.

I really, really don't care for snakes and prefer them as FAR away from me as possible.

My brother-in-law found a Gopher Snake about 14 years ago from when a huge pile of tree branches was moved away from the property. That thing when I held it up to about my height of 5 ft 10 still had another 8-12 inches on the ground. That was the largest Gopher I had ever seen.

Then in the same hills we found a Rattle Snake, we would always go looking for them, and that sucker was about the longest I had ever seen in California. At least 6'. Small compared to what is in Texas though.
