Woo Hoo! Fantastic! Question: I think you answered this before, but will the buyer have to supply the lights? I might start shopping around! Keep us posted and stick me down as a potential buyer.
Looks fabulous. I think I'm sold on the idea. I'd love to see a kit that had everything you need and some DIY instructions. I really like the look, you've done a fantastic job !
To answer a few questions... - You'll need to buy your lights from Ricambi. Daniel is going to be the best source for these if you want new OEM. I have examined a few replicas and they are junk. - More photos will follow soon with this mounted on my own 348. - I am contemplating making a DVD instructional video. This isn't too complicated, but if anyone else out there is "all thumbs" like yours truly, that DVD might come in handy.
First of all fantastic job of that 348 grill. Reminds me so much of the Goth custum grill I see were the PS pictures are coming from, however. Even though i absolutely love both the 348 and goth custom grills. I absolutely hate those in bay support struts that clearly show through the rear mesh of the 355 (picture). I assume the 348s have the same unsightly supports? Other can that i love it, shame the 348/355s exhaust systems cant be seen through the grills. Then i think i could live with the support struts. The supports will not be as visible through the 348 Challenge Grill - the perforated metal is a bit more dense. That said, the density of the perforated metal is one aspect we are fine-tuning for optimum appearance.
Fantastic!! Any ID for the price? Do I need new lights or is it possible to use the excisting lights?
The price we are targeting for the CF panel is $1,300. We are also likely going to offer a less expensive fiberglass unit; how much less expensive is going to basically be what our cost is of the Carbon Fiber is. The units will come painted and ready to mount. Please keep in mind we are not ready to produce these just yet. There are some fit and finish issues that we are addressing, and we are experimenting to find the optimum way in which to mount the panel, which involves bracket tooling. But we aren't far off at all. If all goes well, we should be ready for launch around October 20th.
Oh, I figured the two of you would chime in sooner or later. How are both of you guys doing? I hope all is well. Bush, I thought you were going to make a little run to Phx. What happened?
GREAT WORK HUSKER!!!! Damn, looks awesome. I have the lights, have the harness, just need the grill ... whenever they become available. LOVE IT!
Indeed. Goth sent me some close-ups of his 355 grill. There is also a grill that Tubi of Japan used to make that provided some design inspiration that looks a lot like both the Goth grill and the new Challenge Grill. There are some differences, but the concept is similar in many respects. The Challenge Grill is using a perforated metal that is very close to Ferrari Challenge Grill OEM, as opposed to a "mesh."
Somehow I doubt that there's enough money in selling a few tail light panels to pay for any Ferrari, much less a 355.
Howdy guys. I worked late today on mounting the taillight panel to my 348. I'm the guinnea pig I guess. We are working on a way to make this installation as easy as possible, so we are tweaking this and that on that back end. One thing that bothered me early on in this process was the "cutting" of the mount housing of the current rectangular taillights. There is no way around this and anybody that says there is is a liar. You have to do some snipping to get those round taillights in. I fumed a little at my dad today about this, and he said "Big deal, a welder can spot weld these pieces back in 15 minutes tops if you want to go back to stock." I said "Yeah, but then it will be welded." Being an originality purist, I was surprised when he said "how the heck would anyone ever know you spot welded them back in place unless you took the rectangular lights completely out and exposed the welds." I thought of that saying "No one knows you have a hole in your underwear unless you're only wearing your underwear." So I got over it and snipped the housing to make the panel fit. It fit. The final step in all of this is we have to make brackets so that the average idiot like myself can mount the thing to the car. That should be done by this coming Monday. Then it's back to the manufacturer, and within a few days, you can order one up! That's it for now from Texas.
Husker you have done a great job !!! My hats off to your perserverance on seeing this project through !! I sure hope he does ......... ............ I don't really see any other reason for him to go through so much trouble ........... ..... !!!!
