Snell 2010 standards

I *believe* it depends on the individual organizers - I don't believe there's any "hard and fast" rules.

Typically, it runs "current standard and the last one", and goes into effect a year after the new one becomes generally available. Thus, next year (2011), the requirement will be for Snell SA2005 or SA2010.

According to Simpson (www.TeamSimpson.com), the SA2010 helmets will start hitting the market around October 2010. If history holds true, after this year, SA2000 will no longer work for most organizers.

Anyone know how long the SA2005 helmets will be good for? I'm looking to buy a helmet soon and can't wait until October.

 

Normally older latest standard (SA 2005 in this case) is good until 5 years after it's last "the standard" year so I would think a SA 2005 helmet will be good until 2014 or 2015 , kind of hard to say a SA 2005 helmet made new in 1009 or 2010 is instantly junk ,for use on the a shelf only.
