i wish i would have had more memery cards for this show. i am very happy yesterday i got 2 more 128mb cards for $29 each! more infohttp://www.qv500.com/bizzarrini5300p6.htm During the 1950s and 60s, Europe was filled with specialist carrozzeria who would showcase their abilities by fabricating unique bodywork to clothe rolling chassis's from all manner of manufacturers. Some survive today, Pininfarina, Zagato and Bertone, for example, but many more faded into obscurity after producing just a handful of cars. One such organisation was Stile Italia of Turin who fabricated roadster bodywork for two 5300 GT's in 1966 and '68. The first, chassis IA3 0245, debuted at the Geneva Salon in March of 1966 and could be configured either as an out an out Spyder, a targa, or a closed coupe thanks to an innovative removable hardtop with targa roof panels. The 1966 Geneva Salon prototype #IA3 0245 Although retaining a silhouette not dissimilar from the regular Berlinetta, detail differences between IA3 0245 were immediately apparent from any angle. At the front, there were novel retractable headlights that followed the same contours as normal, new indicator lenses and a slightly re-profiled nose also having featured. Other detail differences came in the form of two new air extraction vents located behind each wheelarch, these being divided by a decorative chrome strips. But undoubtedly the most drastic changes were made behind the cabin. Indeed, the Spyder's much longer rear deck featured a pair of streamlined headrests that extended back to the trunk lid, its extended Kamm tail housing four circular light clusters. Inside, the cabin got an A3/C binnacle containing all the major instruments, the tachometer and speedometer being angled from the centre towards the driver as before. A transmission tunnel still dominated the cockpit but now appeared to lie flatter between new steeply raked bucket seats, passengers being afforded a grab handle located on the right hand side of the instrument binnacle. A second Spyder was built for an American customer in 1968 on chassis BA4 108, this car most obviously being completed without the prototypes retractable headlights. BA4 108 also had engine cooling vents behind each front wing, push-button door releases and single tail light clusters at the back, all of which mimicked those found on Bizzarrini's stock 5300 GT. Chassis History IA3 0245 Spyder - 1966 Geneva Salon car. BA4 108 Spyder - 1968 completed with covered headlights, 5300 GT push-button door releases and engine cooling vents, single tail lights, Weber carburettors and independent rear suspension.
This car is registered in Germany. It also seems to be a Strada Spider with detail differences compared to the other. Is this may be the second or are we talking conversion? Image Unavailable, Please Login
i am not sure but from what i have read the one i posted was the 2nd and the frist was blue. i will look into it more tonight
I looked into the 2001 published Bizzarrini book and they have 3 Spiders. Your above mentioned S/N's, of which the prototype car was painted silver, and indeed a blue one with S/N IA3-0315, ex-Blackhawk collection. Coincidentally there exist two cars with this S/N, the other one residing in Germany with colour combination red/black!
All good info MR2, except this red Spyder SI car was not sold in 1998. This car's twin, a blue Spyder, was the car auctioned in 98.....Fuzzy
The German Spyder is a conversion and was not produced by Bizzarini. After being "lost" for many years the silver prototype was recently found. It is currently undergoing a complete and thorough restoration.
