the car is stunning in both shapes, if i had a choice I wouldn't know which to take home, the old body or the convertible body!
Emiel, it is marvellous for me, I don't ask the question...I have not the choice ! But,the only think ,I am sure; if the car had have the old body, I don't bought the car. I love the 121LM Scaglietti barchetta.

Guy, Did Marcel ever contact you about your car? In the other thread it seemed as if he never acknowledged your requests for more information. Were you ever able to speak to the couple who own the engine to 0771S? I would be curious as to why fellow Ferrari enthusiasts would not want to see the original engine reunited with its original chassis. As your intention is to bring the car back to as it was when it was rebodied (which I think is a great idea! I have no love for the original 195 body!!) Will you be removing the 250 GTE components for period correct 195 components. I would assume the car still had its 195 mechanicals when it was rebodied. Beautiful car!! You do some very good work!! The Farrari badges you hand panted are magnifique!! Very confusing to have this car disussed on two threads the other one should be closed and if possible merged into this one.
Bill, I don't know why, but effectively Mr Massini dont ever contact with me ?? About the 0117S engine, I have made to the owner a good agreement proposal if we are agree, 0117S engine could be reunited with its original chassis,if it is not the case, I'll place my 083S engine (of period) in my 0117S chassis (of the same period) !!! It is simple. I have no love for the original 195 body!!) ............... me too. Yes ,the car have its 195 mechanicals when it was rebodied in febbruary 1956. You do some very good work!! The Farrari badges you hand panted are magnifique!! ...............thank you very much. and if possible merged into this one ................I don't know ? Guy
I disagree. I like the original coupe body alot. IF it still exists, a replicar with original period parts should be created (or modern versions, made by Classiche), using the original body...as long as it is presented as a REPLICAR
Marteen, I think it's wonderful that you brought this beautiful machine back to life and are doing as Enzo intended and driving it
Source a gearbox (is nobody making them?) and put the restored engine in your car. If the owner of the correct engine wants to smoke you out, so be it. You have an as new engine, you can use it as intended as is now, without extra investment, and you know where the original engine is. Why would you be in any kind of hurry? Nobody else will want to propose a swap like that to the owne, as nobody else will have the same interest.
Sometimes people just want to hold onto things, there may be no rhyme or reason, nor dollar amount. That particular engine may just have some meaning to the current owners that is not rational, so they keep it.
I nominate Smartteen as F-Chatter of the Year, for his remarkable dedication, talent, erudition, openness and graciousness, even in the face of some rather harsh criticism in the early stages of this project. Bravo.
+1 He is definitely walking the walk and (as well) reaping the benefits of virtue being its own reward. Congratulations on a magnificent job on a wonderful car. Best of luck and happy motoring Smartteen.
+1 Yale you are absolutely right. I have been around old cars since I was a kid and I can't begin to guess how many times I have seen this exact scenario play out. It certainly can be a frustration to someone who is trying to reunite pieces of an historical document, but at the end of the day I guess it's just one of those truisms- every once in awhile, this is the way things shake out.
