    I know they bypassed it somehow, as they weren't compliant with some sort of regulations here. I'm looking for specifics as there are some fine machines across the pond which i would like to get my hands on in the near future.

    McLaren never exported the cars to the US. McLaren never made a US version of the F1. A company called Ameritech up North tried to import them and played it off as if they were the manufacturer. Very few were imported this way and required a lot of money to meet EPA/DOT standards. Now they're imported under Show & Display.

    one i am familure with was federalized with big ugly bumpers etc... the spares were shipped separately then after clean bill were reinstalled at owners shop
