And can't understand what all the hype is about. Don't get me wrong, the car is lovely but seems overweight and sluggish. The egear wasn't any better than my granturismo S and frankly, much less engaging. Just thought I'd share as I was considering this car and never had a chance to drive it previously. I was really not expecting to be so underwhelmed. Am I missing something?

You must be! Mine is a beast, but I do have a 6 speed. Love the car. Still love my Ferrari and won't sell it but the G is so strong, comfortable and beautiful, it is one of my favorites. Never driven a Granturismo S (happy to drive your car though just for comparison purposes) but can't imagine there is any comparison.

Lambo's E-gear system is sub-par, IMHO. With a 6-speed box, the Gallardo will knock your socks off! But, even so, I'm guessing you got into one that was a little "off". Car screams when everything is in tune...pretty finicky when it's not.

I drove a Gallardo before buying the CS and liked the performance. It was deceptively fast. But yes I bought the CS instead for a lot of other reasons.

As you see from my avatar, I have a Gallardo (Spider) and an F430 (Coupe)

    They're both amazing cars.

The Ferrari does shift faster and smoother and on the track is like a surgical tool.

The Gallardo has a MUCH MUCH better exhaust note (esp. since I put a LOC exhaust on it) and b/c it's a Spider looks just amazing.

I love having both and actually drive the Gallardo more often than the Ferrari...

AWD, the first thing I did when I bought my Gallardo was convert it to RWD, now it feels just like my 430 couple did, just a bit faster. I would never own any sports car in AWD and when I had my tt Porsche's they were converted to RWD as well. The Gallardo in AWD feels like a pickup truck to me. As far as the egear in clutch tend to engage at about 1800 rpm, thats takes come getting used to, and there were many updates over the years. My car has the newest clutch and software, and it is no worse than any other unit, and I have owned F1, SMG, and even a Maserati CC car, I would rather have a gearshift.

I would have to disagree. I recently had my choice to buy either a 2006 gallardo spyder (egear) or a brand new 2010 gran turismo s (mc sportline edition) and I chose the gallardo. The gallardo handled much better than the maserati and was noticeably quicker...actually ALOT quicker. IMHO they are very different cars. One is a touring car and one is a sports car. Overall I like the styling of the gran turismo but the performance and depreciation of the maserati turned me off.

I am sorry if my initial post was misleading. I also have a scuderia and was trying to convey that the gallardo was more akin to the Maserati than the Scud. Thanks

What year Gallardo did you drive? They have changed dramatically over the years. Try a new LP560.

Gallardo is a HEAVY car with piece of **** brakes. It looks amazing, sounds amazing and all that power is not bad.

Yes and if you are comparing track cars like the scud or a CS to a standard Gallardo that is apples and oranges, he should have driven an SL, he never answered what year, type of Gallardo etc...

Sorry for the delay. It was an 08 Gallardo spider. I do agree with your analysis regarding street car v. track car but i wasn't underwhelmed in comparison, i was underwhelmed in general. I mean the car feels like a tank. The steering is not tactile nor is the power delivery smooth or linear. My point is that from a total package perspective, the car seems to lack the cohesiveness to make it a complete and dynamic package. By comparison, my GT3 RS and even my 996TT felt more cohesive. Please do not take what i say with any disrespect. I am simply making an uninformed observation. Thanks

Well, you drove one of the lowest performing and heaviest version -- an old model Spyder. Why would you want to compare it to a GT3 RS or a Scuderia? The very least you should compare to those cars is the 560 Sypder, though realistically it should be a coupe. Hell, if you are going to compare track versions, you need to compare the 560 SL.

The 560 platform is a very good package. While I have not driven a Scuderia or the GT3 RS, I'd say the 560 is probably better than both overall. It's easily as fast if not faster than both in terms of sheer acceleration; the AWD is an advantage, not a handicap; it's full of all the creature comforts; and it's a total daily driver, rain or shine.

Maybe it isn't as nimble when put in a slalom test, but in the real world the car is amazing and probably one of the best value cars out there if you buy one with a couple thousand miles.

LOL, I was once at Algar and they asked me to drive one just like that, they thought there was something wrong with it, no in that form it is way to heavy and feels like a pickup truck, then they drove mine, and they could not even believe they were even in the same car type of car. I realize most people do not do what I do and take these types of cars apart, but the difference just a few changes can make is so remarkable it really is hard to put into words.
