above, so if the fuel pump came apart, the fuel will be splashed on the exhaust manifold and hence the fire.

above, so I took 30 min to make a conduit, if you will, to make that happen more difficult. ( aluminium, hand shaped, some scissors job and 2 drilled holes for screws)

below: kinda ugly but after putting the side panels on, it won't be visible.

    hope this post entertains you.

LOL...if the spill is that bad the vapors alone will ignite.

I thought about using a simple sheet of fiberglass or rubberized cloth to cover it and divert any spray down behind the heat shield there.

My concern is the sharp edges of the aluminum wearing through a wire, hose, or part of the siding.

Let's look at this logically... The original fuel pumps lasted for over 20 years for most of us. If you replace the fuel pump with a "new version" (off-white) one, you probably will not have to revisit the problem for another 20 or so years-- maybe longer with the "new version" replacement.

Not trying to be a wise guy here, just sayin'... If your fuel pump inlet/outlet nipple breaks and you have a catastrophic fuel leak/spray/soaking or even vapor in the engine compartment it's more likely game over-- protective shield or not. I have more peace of mind knowing I have an Agreed Value insurance policy on my car.

Fantastic video - and disturbingly accurate.
    Thank you.

Why not just fill the top of the fuel pumps with epoxy proactively to give them some better structural integrity?

Honestly not sure if that design at the top carries any purpose or not, but it definitely seems to be a common failure point.

Looks like you're going thru a lot of trouble when you could just put a new fuel pump in. And resale? I imagine that this kind of contraption would scare off buyers. Like what other corners are you cutting?
