For some reason I got in the mood to draw tonight. I haven't done anything more than a doodle since high school art classes. Let me know what you guys think. Clearly I didn't finish. Honest opinions are appreciated. I need a creative outlet.

WHile your sketches look good, that sculpture is fantastic!! What is it made from?

I kinda know how you feel about needing a creative outlet - as a child and into my teens I played all sorts of musical instruments (both by myself and in groups, bands and orchestras), then when I went to university it kinda fizzled out and often I think that I'd like to get back into it, but I guess I let life get in the way too much... Recently I started seeing a girl who plays the piano. I used to play the piano and IMHO I was pretty good at it, but probably haven't played for at least 9 years. I was round at the girl's apartment and sat down at the piano and started to play what looked like an easy piece of music. I was absolutely hopeless!!!! I couldn't believe how much I'd forgotten over the years - it was almost like learning something completely new. Just goes to show how much you need to practice a skill regularly to keep it up!

Nice! Your high school must've had a good art dept. Ours was dead... you basically taught yourself everything.

I like the sculpture the best... timeless.

Thanks for the responses guys. Trying to draw last night was one of the most frustrating things I have ever experienced.

I will have to try to get a better shot of the sculpture sometime, as I don't think that picture does it justice. It was just made out of clay, fired, and then painted to look bronze. I think I did that about 9 years ago.

It is so difficult to go from "cold turkey" to creating art. It could be compared to not driving your Ferrari for a few years, then hopping behind the wheel and expecting to carve canyons at redline. It's a talent/skill that requires constant exercise.

I like sculpture as well.... something about being able to add dimension that you just can't get from illustration. I like your style and choice of colors for the two finished illustrations you did though.

For most of us I would agree... I've known artists though that have not illustrated in years that can pickup any manner of medium and create a work of art with little or no effort.

8 years wow, let me guess you had a major art related accident that resulted in the dead of an innocent person?

All joking aside I like the sculpture a lot

    I too like the sculpture...

BUT, call it constructive criticism... your taste in beer needs serious work...

lol...I haven't taken an art class since high school, so some of the motivation has been lost. Pretty much the only time I draw now is during conference calls at work.

My son is 3 so it is starting to bring back some of what i used to do. He loves to color, so we will sit there and draw together (ok he just scribbles).

Miller lite is good every once in a while. I usually go for Corona or red stripe, but it can be a nice change of pace. I just don't like any of the heavier darker beers.

I like the sculpture. I need to get back to drawing eventually, but I just can't find the time. Last thing I did was some water color painting several years ago. Seems like it's been forever.

Corona is by far the worst beer out there....:O

Not really sure how this turned into the beer thread..but whatever

Miller Lite is a great beer for when you want something refreshing that won't fill you up.Man this sounds like a commercial for Miller.

I like the commercial where the guy installed a Miller tap in his bathroom sink. Awesome.

    Miller high life.

I am a sculptor and the other people on this thread have it right...... the sculpture is much better than the drawings. As in most things, practice makes perfect. So, if you draw a little every day..........who knows what might happen. Good luck!

I liked more the sculpture, but the drawings look good after all, you need to practice more on this, on a daily basis as branko suggested, I can help you out..... with those beers! LOL

please keep up posting the progress of your drawings.
