Not exactly sure what kind of help you are asking for as there are a limitless number of possible advice someone could otherwise offer.

Your attached (greyscale) photo appears to have been shot from a phone? Was the monitor displaying in greyscale or was it a problem with your phone photo? If you are just asking about the display then go to "System preferences..." under the  (apple icon drop-down menu) on the extreme upper left. Then select "displays" and do what's intuitive.

I believe DVI is the best type of connection method to use between the Mac and its monitor.

As 4th Gear noted, not quite sure what you're asking here.....

Your Ebay drive came with the OS installed? Or did you install from a DVD? What version of the OS? What exactly is the problem?

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - Are you using a Bluetooth keyboard? Mouse? [That image suggests it's trying to "pair" the keyboard", but can't see it - It knows its there, but is not "discoverable"?]

Seems an incopatibility of settings. Like if the display is set to 8bit greyscale. Go to system preferences and try to change display settings. Colours depth, frequency, resolution etc.

If you are unable to use it at all like that then install some virtual desktop app like splashtop and use it with your ipad if you have one meanwhile.

To have a better display management software than system preferences download switchresx

I bet your video card is a toast, if there is display port output it may still work with adapter. Also I believe you can put in different (mac version) card there or use USB video card
