Looks pretty serious - could be an opening for Kubica ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/41870426 Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams said: "I would like to thank Felipe for all he has done for the team over the last four years. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with him. "We are especially grateful that he agreed to postpone his retirement from F1 for a year, after Valtteri joined Mercedes, which demonstrated the depth of the relationship we built during our time together. Best, Sammy
The list of drivers being developed the last 2 months was clear indication he was going to be released.
+1 will never forget how much class Massa showed in 2008 when the WDC was taken from him after he thought he had won when Lewis passed Glock on the last lap to come home 5th. I cannot think of too many other drivers that would have shown as much grace in that situation. Hoping Kubica is the choice, but I think Williams is so desparate for money that it will go to The Torpedo. It is a shame to see Williams as such a shadow of its former greatness in the early to mid 1990s that it is forced to take such obvious pay drivers just to survive.
I truly don’t understand why Williams gives up points for paid drivers. They could make more money by performing better. The only thing that surprises me about Stroll this year is that he didn’t crash out more. What didn’t surprise me is that Massa beat him consistently in almost every qualifying session and almost every race they both finished together. Massa is faster than Stroll.
Massa has class, he isn't the driver he was back in his day, the accident seems to have seen for that edge he had previously, but he is a consistent, clever driver (although I don't like the anti-ferrari driving he does when he gets the opportunity, he needs to leave that at home, its four years since he got the push), but he is worthy of what is, nowadays, a second tier team. Stroll shows very little over any other novice, so I hope Williams have seen more than he's shown us so far, or they are heading for a tough year again next year no matter who they replace him with. Torpedo - meh, money but thick as two short planks in racing terms. Werewolf, again, not shown enough, better suited maybe to lemans or other formula. Kubica, it would be nice to see him make a come back, but he's ten years older almost, comebacks don't go well for many, even Michael wasn't the same after a few years out and with age catching him up.
I'd love to see Kvyat and Stroll go at it, too. However, I think it'll be Kubica or possibly di Resta.
