I've had my steering rack out on my 97 355 spider. My mechanic did it. Its pretty tight to get out, not sure if its DIY job. Some of the under chassis has to be very slightly bend to get the thing out.

    Interesting!!! :):)

I have removed gearboxes in cars before where I had to "panelbeat" the transmission tunnel in order to get the gearboxes out. :D:D

Never thought they would be THAT silly enough to build a car like that. When we called the car manufacturers to enquire, they actually said it was in their service bulletin to "modify" the transmission tunnel as required to remove gearbox. Well, most of them did. The others denied it and said that the gearbox comes out without any "modifications" to the trans tunnel. But that was lie if you ask me because we would always try everything before we resorted to banging metal under there. :p:p

Perhaps the Ferrari steering rack is similar eh?? A little panelbeating required to get it out? :p:p

There are probably 20 guys on this forum that have removed and replaced the 348/355 steering rack before. They just havent seen this thread yet or they couldnt be bothered posting. :p:p

Nothing needs to be bent to get the rack out of a 355. From the sounds of it you are lucky the guy didn't get the cutting torch out.

Never done a 348 and it would be a very different job anyway.

If my memory serves me correct the boy did remove his rack, or was it that he moved it? Whatever, send the boy a pm.
