Just a quick little question I thought I would ask. Mainly because of all the news reports about not having enough power to run the A/C in our homes. Have you guys cut back at all?..I gotta say I'm one of the bad ones..can't really put a price on a good nights sleep, and with working in the heat all day over even hotter engines, A/C is a blessing.

One thing though, I really don't think this should be an issue in a country like ours. We should have ample power gievn all the natral resourses we have here in the country. What have all our electric bills gone towards? Why the heck don't we haven enough power for a heat wave of a couple of weeks? I thinks its just plain stupid.

Totally agree, we do have. It's the antiquated electrical grid to blame...

I remember those hot summer nights in Montreal. Sweating my nuts off just lying in bed trying to get to sleep at 3:00am...

    Not here in Vancouver! :D

In Ontario the shortage is largely due to coal fired plants taken out of service to cut pollution. You wonder if the Greenies considered life without AC?
Ontario has gone from a net exporter of electricity to an importer.

We cook with gas (no load there), didn't use the dryer (hung clothes on clothesline, they smell better anyway as a result), dishes by hand. AC is set back but still on, there are limits.

Here at the rockpile, I'm not burning all the lights - I've got a few banks turned off. Turn the AC up until the old ladies start complaining - then I know I've found the sweet spot!

Got the air on at home, but no too cold. Yell at the teenagers from hell when they leave TV's, computers, fans and stereos on in their rooms.

I hear we are importing power from the U.S... They have more people than us, yet they still have a surplus of power. We have more natural resources and fewer people.... something doesn't quite make sense... but then again, with our politicians, noone should be suprised!

Tom, good post...I need to vent on this one.

I am sick and tired of this government in this country and province. I pay 45% taxes, plus 15% on almost everything I buy, I pay property taxes, and in markham we have to use a green box to recycle our food waste(I dont eat at home much) and 1 garbage bag per two weeks now. I use the doctors office 2 a year, never hospitals or emerg. And I pay 50% taxes almost on the gas I use for my cars.

As far as Im concerned, gas can hit $20 a gallon, and my 12 TR will be used even more, and hydor can go to to $20 a kilo watt...I dont care anymore. Im sick and tired of being told what I need to do...I do enough for my part.

Oh, my kids go to private school where I pay a tuition, and its not tax deductable anymore via provincial liberals closing that gap last year.

My A/C is gonna stay cranked, and everything I wish to use. Maybe someone at the planning department should drive around the skyline and see all the new condos being built and figure something out real quick.

WHat a joke this city, they ask to conserve from 8am to 10pm....what a bunch of jack asses....I work in those time slots, what waste at home could i have. Its obvious they are talking to the non workers of the city, and the welfare cases they shell my money to...yet I gotta have the rolling black out.
    Bunch of putzs.

In conclusion Tom, if someone asks me if I am doing my part.....I think this is my answer to the question.
    Thanks for asking lol.

    just my 60%.

Perfectly said Rick! I still can't get over how we are stranded for energy if we have this HUGE ASS thing called Niagara Falls? I've heard reports that we had been supplying energy to US states until we ran out of our own. The gov't will really go to big lengths in order to make an extra buck.

Good post and makes sense to me!

I just chase my daughters around turning off lights. No different than before. LOL. Just trying not to waste.

Personally I believe the rolling blackouts, etc to be mainly a threat so they can justify raising the rates. It's about money. PERIOD!

It's funny that a government that threatens us to conserve is the same government that has various roadblocks and legislation AGAINST the private home owner converting to alternative energy...

    Hmmm.
