So, what's the highest mileage Scuderia on FChat?

Hello Gents,

After seeing that yellow one on eBay with 38k miles, I was wondering who has the highest mileage on their Scuds here because mine is getting up there pretty quick! Bought the car back in May with 9000 miles and now she has nearly 14k. It is one of the best cars I've ever owned and cannot stop driving her. Apart from regular maintenance and wear items, she needs nothing and runs stronger than before.

Having said that, I am also kinda worry about high mileage Ferraris. Wondering if I should hold on to it or sell it to get an 09 (Nuovo or Bianco Avus with lower miles and keep it a long term, not driving it as much). What would be more financially better option do you guys think?

If you love driving it why not just keep driving it until it depreciates to zero...and then you won't need to worry about it;-)

Lowest absolute cost = Highest cost per mile

Financial sense does not equal Ferrari at all - you just gotta decide if your hobby is to collect and admire - or drive. There is no single answer.

I say keep it. I have the same dilemma. I bought the scud last month with 3800 miles and I have 5300 miles today. Its a amazing car , best car ever owned.

I think i am going to drive so much it will have 30 k miles in 5 years. After that point depreciation slows down. If you trade up to 2009 you will take a bigger hit end of the day. Better to stay put and enjoy them.

The mindset about high mileage and huge depreciation is as fake as the mindset about Ferrari's reliability.

Some people are stuck in the 80s even 30 years after, they think Ferraris are unreliable. Ferrari under Luca di Montezemolo worked hard on creating reliable and dependable cars, and they have done it.

IMHO, the 16M and Scuderia are the 2 most reliable Ferrari ever made, they are more reliable than the 458 and California that were produced later, we have yet to see how they compare to the FF and F12. The 3rd most reliable Ferrari is the 599 GTO.

The first 10,000 miles are the ones that take the highest hit on depreciation ($2/mile). Then it goes down to $1/mile from there, but at some point the $1/mile value should go down.

A 2009 Scuderia with 2,000 miles in Nuovo Rosso or Bianvo Avus, is a $206k car today. A Black 2008 Scuderia w/o US Carbon Package with 14k miles is a $156k car today. Before sale tax and other closing costs, this is a $50k difference, if you trade-in the Black 08 you would get another $10k hit at a minimum, and depending on the state, you have to pay sales tax on the $60k difference or the full $206k, in California it would be another $18k plus, so the difference would end up being close to $80k, for the same car and the same experience.

Other factors at play, a 2,000 miles Scuderia driven another 20k miles would take a $28k hit on depreciation, while a 14,000 miles Scuderia would take a $20k hit on depreciation in the worse case. I say the worse case scenario, because with supposedly 34k miles, the Black 08 Scuderia should sell for $136k, and I haven't seen their prices come that low for a 2008 Scuderia, as this is the price range of much older cars not as well equipped as the Scuderia (F430 as an example). You could easily get $145k for a no histories, passing PPI, Black 08 Scuderia with 34k miles, today.

I planned on driving mine for 10k miles/year for 5 years, and then replace it with the 458 Corsa, but very likely Ferrari will price the track day version of the 458 pretty high, and that would hurt resale given that within the next year of release of the 458 Corsa, the 458 replacement (the rumored 478) will be out, so smart money should wait 2 years for the 458 Corsa to depreciate to correct market level, then shop for the right unit.

My car is at 13k miles right now, so it is still far from reaching the 50k miles I would like to reach before replacing it.

The less reliable F430 (compared to the Scuderia and 16M) is running healthy with mileages exceeding 100,000 miles in markets where people enjoy their cars by driving them, rather by owning or showing them. The F430CH (factory race car) has proven long lasting on engine and transmission, with the expensive CCB brakes being the only high cost item, but smart F430CH owners have switched to affordable brake systems.

Yea, I was browsing around the other day and saw that Bianvo Avus at Ferrari of New England and thought what a damn gorgeous car! Also, I'm just worry about something will break (I don't know what) when my warranty is up and stuck with headache. Went to this local race shop and heard the story of one challenge car's carbon disc brake exploding so I was wondering if I should get a low mileage Scud and keep it forever. I'm just totally falling in love with this car. Thought I would miss the RS but it's not even coming close at this point. Appreciate the input guys. Cheers!

Scud by far best looking in that photo. I find the 458 to be like a ricer NSX car. Enjoy it.

 

The 458 looks awesome in real life. Not ricer at all. But that's for the compliment on my Scud.

How reliable has the car been so far?

 

From 7Gt3 to R8 V10 and now the Scud, it's definitely the best sport car that I've have owned. Bought mine last month with 5400 miles, will not stop driving her for another 5 years.

No problems so far. I bought the car with about 28, 000kms. The previous owner is the owner of the service center here in my region. It was his day to day car. He lived about 50kms from work and of course serviced well.

I drive it about twice a week. But month on and month of, due to work and being away. It gets stored about 3-4months a year because of the hard winters here. Longest road trip I have done was 750kms one day, day break and then 750kms back home. Apart from the huge petrol bill nothing to complain about

Only problem I do have on cold start ups only one bank fires. So I shut down and restart and then fine. No one can work out why but I think its non related to the high mileage.

 

I have a 2008 Scud. Bought it with 5,000 miles on it 1 1/2 years ago, now have 12,000 miles. I don't worry about how many miles I put on it - it is too much fun to drive to limit the miles.

The only problem I have had was a knocking noise from the engine at 3,000 rpm, like a low octane knock. Dealer and Ferrari looked at for a long time, and said it is normal. Finally, after it came off of warranty, the dealer put a fuel additive in it to clean it out, and the knocking disappeared.

I could not be happier with this car.

 

Hit 13,000 miles this year on my 08. Bought it with 3,000 two years ago. Enjoyed several long 4 to 6 hour drives with one 16 hour epic drive in rain/snow storm across the Rockies.

The car has been mechanically sound despite a long list of smaller issues requiring regular visit to dealer.

I am in it for the long run though!

i just have the cheaper regular f430, but people with the regular f430 also wonder about the same thing....is it okay to put miles on the car? the truth is and like everyone has said, just drive it and why worry about miles. if you pay this much for a car, you might as well enjoy it, isnt that the real reason why we bought it anyway? we bought it cuz its an amazing car to drive!
