OK...OK, So Operation Repo (on TruTV, formerly Court TV) is a guilty pleasure. Guess the fat chick turns me on (really just kidding). Aside from the usual cars, trucks, tour busses, boats and go-karts, an episode that aired a few minutes ago had the crew doing a repo on what looks like a CJ3. Anybody know the back-story on this?? uhhmm, yea. I missed just one $28,000 dollar a month payment and they got all pissed about it.............sheeez.
I bet plane repo's are pretty common these days, given how long and deep this recession has been. And now the rising price of fuel must be wiping out the folks who were just barely hanging on.
While searching Google for info on the show, found an interesting story that appeared in Smithsonian Air & Space magazine last year about aircraft reposessors, Sage & Popovich. It was a real interesting read! Forgot to copy the link before exiting but shouldn't be too hard to find on da net. In a semi-related note, there was an '81 Falcon 50 auctioned by a lender last week at Orlando Exec. Would have like to have attended that one. I live one mile away. Anybody on FChat that flies into there ought to give me a call...I'll pick you up! KevFla Orlando, FL
A couple of guys dropped by the house last week to look at a MGB I'm selling. Noticing some aviation-themed art, they mentioned they were pilots. One has a Lear 45 and the other guy has a Challenger 602. One made an interesting comment about using the thickness of Executive Controller magazines as an economic barometer of sorts: When times are good, people hang onto their planes. In bad times, they wind-up advertised in E.C. KevFla
Yes, there are deals out there. The older aircraft have had a big drop off in prices and they may have a hard time recovering. A major fallout of everything is that the financial institutions have tightened their lending practices. Limits on how old an aircraft can be and no more non-recourse loans. Jeff
Staged Video!! 1. That's a 2 pilot jet yet there's only 1 pilot in the video. 2. You didn't see those guys get off the jet in the video 3. You wouldn't leave the door open to your plane if everyone was already out of it and walking to the FBO. Where they gonna take the jet to? It's at the airport. You can't tow it down the street to your garage. You wouldn't be allowed to just "fly the jet away". You'd need 2 pilots signed off by the insurance company before that jet would go anywhere. That show is silly
There's no way that show is fake, it's on TruTV. Not reality, actuality. What a joke. More like TruTV (sometimes)
I know a family who lost their business in the recession (RE developer) but managed to keep their plane by chartering it out. you'd think the jet would be the first to go when your biz goes belly up...
The "acting" (if it is in fact fake) looks a bit odd. Especially from the "pilot." I didn't realize that it that required 2 pilots, but now that you mention it, that is true. I did think only 3 people coming out of that was a pretty small amount and considering the trip they took was so short that the repo people could easily be at either destination. How convenient it flew away to add some excitement to the show. Would a company repo it if the owner is "only" behind $100k on payments for a couple months? Isn't that thing worth $6mm+???
I used to fly a cj1 and it was single pilot. Are the newer ones 2 pilots really??? I suppose they are over 12,500 now??
You can get a special sign off for single pilot in that jet but I'm telling you that those guys don't own that. You didn't see them get off of it.
Well according to the plot, the tug was there to block the plane from being moved. (he says this explicitly at about 2:30) As for the rest, who knows (or who really cares) they easily could have had 10 pilots in the wings. I have no problem believing it was a 'recreation' but on the other hand, I really don't see proof of it in this vid. Even if it was 100% legit, the editing folks could/would still butcher it. Update: BTW if you really want to find something incongruous, the jet they show taking off ain't the same one that landed.
Dude...........thats standard procedure, dont you know that???? Its not uncommon to have a power cart still hooked up at takeoff as well.
It's totally contrived... they even say so in the credits that it's a reenactment of a supposed real event. Show is a total piece of crap.
