    Question guys,

So i just bought that new computer I was asking about, and I want to know how to transfer my 6gbs of music from my old laptop to my new sony vaio notebook. Any ideas?? I know the iPod only goes one way....so that does not work. (meaning you can only put music on it, not off of it onto another computer)

    thanks,
    Brian

If it is a new ipod, the click wheel version, you can put it in disk mode and use it as an external hard drive to transfer the music.

    Here is how:
-Press Menu + Select until the screen goes blank
-As soon as it goes blank, press Select + Play/Pause until the screen shows up saying "Disk Mode"
-Plug your ipod into the computer, open up my computer, and it will be there. You can then transfer the files to the ipod, eject it, and plug the ipod into the new computer and take them off.
-To get out of disk mode, press menu + select for 15 seconds until you see the apple logo. (btw, that is also a reset, so if it ever freezes, do that and it will un-freeze)

As John suggested, you could put your iPod into disk mode.

And as you well know, you can't use iTunes to drag music from your iPod to your music library, so you have to find a way to circumvent that. So to do that, go into windows explorer and find your ipod in the "removable storage devices" and right click on it. Scroll down to "File Finder" and open that. It will bring up a window with a bunch of tabs, stay in general, and click "Find Now" All of your files on your iPod should come up in a list. Now you can just select all of your songs from there and drag them into your iTunes library or into a folder on your HD. Note, if you're looking for a specific file, type the filename into "named" in File Finder and it should bring the file up for you.

The iPod is doing it the hard way. Just get or make a crossover ethernet cable, plug the two laptops into each other to form a mini-network and just drag all your old files onto the new computer. Can also do this with all your old other files - documents, spreadsheets, e-mail, whatever. Will save you a lot of time.

It depends what Ipod you have, I have the 2nd newest one, go to programs, accesories, and click windows explorer, then right click where it says something about a portable music device, then it opens a new window and its easy from there
