Ok so Sales is where the the moneys at. But what kind of Sales? what kind of sales are any of you in ? Personally, Ive done the mall retailer thing started from part-time (im in school still) and moved up to fulltime Store Manager in 11 months, contracted one of the highest salaries for that volume of a store and did my thing. I then moved into Fine jewelry and see a ton of potential in it....but im not sure if its ferrari owner potential. Ive considered moving into Cars. Anyone have expierence in this field? or recommend another? I got the customer service thing down pat, my attention to detail is my best attribute, and I have a great memory. I can talk to all kinds of people and providing i have a product to sell and people to sell it to...i havent failed yet.
EVERYBODY is in sales, some just haven't figured it out yet. there are lots of people in the field of Cars on the site, but not me. maybe try "search"? (not to be flippant - there's been lots of talk already and quite a few have had some great threads on the topic).
I am in Sales, Real Estate Sales and I love it. I was once told, you are either doing the selling or helping somebody sell something! Also, who do yout think gets paid more, the guy that helps assemble the boeing jets or the one outthere selling them? Zig Ziglar is a great person to start reading his books.
I am in technology sales and have been for 10 years now. I love it. I get to work with new people all the time, I have made many friends through my customers, and technology is always changing. So its always fresh! Currently I am selling Email Archiving Software. The money is good for the most part but you need to work hard and hit your numbers consistently. Outside sales is fun and can be very lucrative. Inside sales is ok and Ideal for those that want to be home at night and sleep in their own bed or who may have a young family.
Sell coffins! If you can sell anything, from juke boxes to pine boxes. Sell Pine boxes! Think about it, most everyone is going to need one sooner or later. It may seem like a dead-end job at first, but think about the pluses. 1. The customer won't stiff you with your commissions! 2. You will save a fortune by not needing a complaint dept. 3. The best thing about coffin sales is you do not have to worry about trade ins! 4. You can even become a collector of fine suits, jelwery and shoes. I am just joking. You can make whatever you want in sales as long as you think you can. You saying not ferrari money. There is ferrari money in everything. As long as you can sell it. You can also sell medical equipment and while you are at the doctors offices you can generate leads for the your coffins.
you beat me to it! yes, we all are in sales and as they say...nothing happens til the sale is made. pcb
Pic the right carreer. I have been in sales for 10 years and Its up an Down. But the ups are amazing.. JJ
Just quoting it in case anybody else missed it the first 5 times it was quoted. If you haven't figured it out yet, well, figure it out.
ok maybe i should clarify, theres no money to be made in the location im at now. Xmas time was great made some real money. but IE...today we literally went 8hrs without anyone coming in. my sales rounded down $100 = thats $2.00 for me in commission (thank god i have hourly). the location and the residents in the location are the problem....i hate to leave my boss shes amazing, sick sense of "anything goes" humor and really cool with understanding im in school and have a life. but the money is what i need right now, and this spot isnt supplying any. I mean i have clients that drive 1-2 hrs to come to me to buy..passing up 4 of our other locations..so its not like i havent branched out i take client orders over the phone when they see stuff they like online or at another location... its really a matter of where i am now. but how would one go into say...medical sales when they have no medical experience what so ever.
Aside from my side business (Performance Devices), my main job is working with Military design engineers for frequency device sales used in satellite, GPS and weapon delivery and telemetry systems. If it can go through a door or window from 300 miles out, I usually have a product in it! Calling on Gov suppliers like Raytheon, Northrop, Lockheed, etc. is fun. I see some cool applications too. Small oscillators sell for between $1500 and $3K each (Single use!!!!). VERY long design cycles, but when the orders come in, they are big bucks!
Pound for pound a sales person can make as much or more than a doctor, lawyer or anyonr else. You don't have to be the best, just know where to go and with what.
My uncle was in sales then started his own company from the contacts he had built up through his old job
Funny, this is what I do...btw mahogany pays better than pine, keep that in mind. Pharm or med sup is where it's at right now. From what I gather the hot women do better in pharm as the doctors are more willing to let them steal a few minutes. Med sup (pacemakers, surgical eq, hospital eq, etc) is an up and commer. Stay away from car sales. The owners get rich, but those on the floor generally don't. When I was in car sales my commision scale was always at around 30 percent of the gross but that didn't count dealer hold-back, packs, back end sales (although I did get paid on back end at the last dealer that I worked for) or accessories like radar detectors, cell phones (yes it was that long ago that people still installed them), cd players etc.
They will teach you what you need to know to sell the product. At least, if they know anything at all they will do that. I would suggest working for an established company with a good sales training program.
Ive been in performance parts sales forever at Injected Performance, but now ill be selling a service instead of slinging parts.
