Madonna gives $10,000 credit card to 8-year-old daughter........... At age eight I received $2.00 a week as an allowance.......back in 1968......... -------------------------------------------- http://www.southflorida.com/news/sfl-igwntreges8jun23,0,2069633.story?coll=sfe-guide-headlines World Entertainment News Network Posted June 23 2005 According to reports, pop superstar Madonna has given her eight-year-old daughter Lourdes a credit card with a $10,000 limit. Friends say Madonna hopes the exercise will teach Lourdes to appreciate the value of money. "Minors are not usually allowed credit cards so she had to pull a few strings to get it issued in Lourdes' name," a close friend said to magazine In Touch Weekly. "She is hoping to teach Lourdes to be responsible with money."
I've heard the general rule of thumb is to give $1 for each year alive, on a weekly basis. $2 for a 2yo, $12 to a 12yo. Seems to make sense. Nick
My monthly allowance was always twice my age. So when I was 8, I got $16 per month. So that's about $4/wk. A credit card for an 8 year old is just plain dumb.
I started out at $3 when i was like 5, then i could do chores for extra money. As I got old enough to mow the lawn i'd get an extra $10 for that. When I hit h.s. I'd get $20 a week for food. Naturally, I'd live off about $8 or so a week and pocket the rest by that point. Then I got a job and I pretty much stopped accepting allowance.
I don't find it as funny! Hey cool my dad just got home... time to ask for a bit more lol EDIT heh, I told him about Madonna's daughter and he just laughed!
iceburns288..... Heh.....that's pretty funny..... But.....do you mow the law every week (we had old fashioned push mowers back then and lawns were huge)....shovel the snow in winter (every time it snows)....and wash your dads car on demand ? LOL !!
I never got an allowance... which I suppose is why I was working part time during school and full time during the summer at age 14. I'm glad it happened that way... I know far too many people who were pampered until age 18 or later and now have no job skills or motivation and will end up working dead end $10/hr jobs until they die.
I never got an allowance. Towards the end of high school, when my parents wanted things done, I started bargaining for things that I wanted (musical instruments mostly, and eventually car parts). I usually just did what they asked for free though.
