Or a Porsche for that matter...........

I just returned back from Rio de Janeiro yesterday and happened to pick up a copy of their equivalent of the DuPont Registry while waiting in the airport.

There are quite a few examples of both marques for sale....and I thought it might be interesting to those of you here who always wondered about what cars sell for in other countries to see what kind of money these command in Brasil. The book....."Vendo Autos" covers the Rio and Sao Paulo markets exclusively.

Bear in mind that all prices quoted here include punitive federal importation taxes, and were converted over to USD from Reais at a rate of 2.20 and that after the purchase of the car you still have to pay the local taxes on top of everything, as well as $6.00 USD a gallon for premium gas....not to mention the SUV full of armed bodyguards you'll need to follow you around while you drive thru the streets back to your "Alphaville" compound in Sao Paulo.

    1994 Ferrari 456 GT 5 speed, 17000 kms.....$141,000 USD
    2000 Ferrari 360 Coupe F1, 14000 kms.....$268,000 USD
    2002 Ferrari 360 Spider F1, 15000 kms.....$341,000 USD
    2002 Ferrari 360 Spider 6 speed, 3300 kms.....$332,000 USD
    2004 Ferrari 575M F1, 2100 kms.....$477,000 USD
    1999 Ferrari 360 Coupe F1 Blindado (bulletproof), 11300 kms.....$286,000 USD
    1998 Ferrari 355 GTS F1, 14000 kms.....$192,000 USD

Yeah, but if you are an entrepneur with your own coca fields...does price really matter? ;)

What does a 355 cost? 2 kilo's? There. Now that doesn't sound so bad, does it. Besides, life is short down there, you have to enjoy yourself!

I did exactly what you said, sold everything and moved to Curitiba, Brasil. I have seen more Ferraris on the road here in the last three years that my whole life in central New Jersey.

Ferraris may be expensive down here but people actually use them. Here are a couple of pictures from an auto show a few months back, notice the engine is dirty because the car is driven very often.

If you look close you will see that is is also equiped with a nitrous oxide system.

    Just some dude.........

That's what I'll be doing in 8-10 more years as well.......as I married a Carioca.

Love the "Radio Transamerica" sticker in the rear quarter glass of the car !!!! Muito legal !!!

    Bo....

I don't know about price sensitivity not being an issue....after all IIRC.....Al Pacino in "Scarface" seemed to cut quite a good deal with Sosa......heh.

When I was in Sao Paulo I went to the F store and they had cars and no waiting list for a 360. I talked to the dealer and he would order me a car right away. Back in the states they were sold out. I will be in Sao Paulo later this year.

Great KDS! It is really nice living here. The car was at the Radio Transamerica stand at the auto show, I believe that the car belongs to Tarso Marques or his brother Tiago Marques, either way I think they have a pair of 360 Modenas, the other one is red with black wheels, and many more awesome cars.

Here are a few more pics of Ferraris in Brasil, there were 5 of them parked in front of a club called Beats while the owners partied inside until 7am.

The tax is about 200% on top of the price of the car. A Mercedes SLR McLaren that costs US$450,000 in the US costs US$1,200,000 in Brasil. The first SLR in Brasil was delivered a few weeks ago about 5 miles from here, they had a hard time getting one because most of the cars were allocated to the US.

I don't think there is a waiting list for the F430 now either, but the car costs around US$450,000.

    Vasco......

    Yeah......pretty rude numbers eh ? Especially the 12 cylinder coupes....456 and 575......

There was a couple of used Nissan 350ZX coupes for sale in the same magazine for $165,000 USD........how's that for mind boggling !!

I'll post the Porsche numbers here later when I have time.

In BA an MB A class makes you look rich, people just cant comprehend what an F40 or an Enzo would cost there so in that case just take down an old Corvette C4 & chicks will line up thinking you are THE Donald

Thats THE reason why i will not live in Brazil UNLESS im loaded as a mother****er ( ie : Bodyguards , compound house etc ..)

I want a Ferrari and to be able to enjoy it wherever i go with the windows down . Not doable in RJ or SP . Dunno about Belo Horizonte or Minas Gerais .

And the roads..they suck . Terrible and compared to what we have in Europe , they look boring .

Here's a selection of Porsche's from the same book...........

    2004 PORSCHE Cayenne V6, 14500 kms, (bulletproof)......$133,500 USD
    1997 PORSCHE 993 Turbo, 32000 kms,.....$137,500 USD
    2004 PORSCHE Cayenne "S", 12600 kms.....$147,500 USD
    2001 PORSCHE 996 Turbo, 11000 kms.....$230,000 USD
    2002 PORSCHE C4S, 17000 kms.....$205,000 USD
    1999 PORSCHE GT3, 400 kms.....$255,000 USD
    1999 PORSCHE Boxster, 28000 kms.....$83,000 USD
    1986 PORSCHE 911 Targa, 115000 kms.....$50,000 USD
    1999 PORSCHE 996 C4, 31000 kms.....$132,500 USD
    2001 PORSCHE 996 Turbo, 5000 kms, (bulletproof).....$265,000 USD

And the roads......yeah, they all suck big time......the best one IMHO is from Rio de Janeiro to Angra......flat and smooth as glass......

An interesting story.....back in 1998 I sold a 993 Turbo to a guy here in Calgary. We contacted Autothority who sold us the Stage II 500 HP kit for it and had it installed locally. While talking to them they had mentioned that they just did one for a guy in Brasil on his 993.....the guy sent his private jet to collect the kit and the technician from Autothority who stayed at the guys mansion while doing the work.......now that is money.

I applaude those guys who have the courage to buy Ferraris in Brazil . Gotta be Very very passionate to use them there . Or be completely out of your mind :)

As a note to everyone reading this subject : Brazil is dangerous if you are careless and show your wealth as you would do in Europe/NY . I have never had any pbs when in Brazil . Never attacked or anything and i didnt live under a rock . Just in a simpler way.

The less you show the better. I would personally stay away from SP and Rio and spend time more around BH and the North of Brasil like Natal and Camphina Grande.

I've accumulated 19 seperate trips to Rio over the last 5 years........for a total time in country of approximately one year if you were to add it all up.

I wouldn't wear a Rolex on my wrist in parts of most any large city over 5-10MM population anywhere else in the world that I wasn't familiar with, or flash cash or a fancy car around as well (it's just plain good 'ole common street sense)......I have never had any problems there at all......nor felt insecure to the point of wanting to run away from something. FWIW.......remember.......there are lots of people in other countries that are perceived to be much safer who have bodyguards following them around and armored cars for personal use. I can think of a few right here in Calgary for example.........but won't mention the names. Personally I find Brasilians to be some of the most paranoid people on the planet.
