I always thought these things were gadgets, but I picked up a soap dispensing nozzle from Brookstone and it works great. The soap dispensing rate and the nozzle pressure are both adjustable. I find it much easier to use than a bucket and I think lightly spraying the soap on helps lift the dirt before using the sponge. They are $25 from Brookstone stores -- the quality of the construction is average at best, but it works very well.

I wouldn't use it on my BMW.

The reservoir would be good for holding the lime juice if you use the contraption as a "Corona" dispenser. ;)

The Mr Clean car cleaning system is a variation of this product, albeit they add a rinse water filter.

I've heard very good things about that system, but I haven't tried it because, well, it is from Mr. Clean -- it's probably not a fair assumption on my part, but I haven't used it for this reason. I typically use gentle soaps like P21S shampoo or Meguires Gold Class, though it could well be that the Mr. Clean stuff is very good as well.
