I'd like to know why I didn't get to see the top 3 driver interviews after this past weekend's F1 race.................because of soccer?!?!? Why in the world is SpeedTV broadcasting soccer????
I'm amazed that it took so long for this thread to appear. Face it, F1 fans are the unwanted stepchildren in SPEED's demographic.
Varsha kept bringing it up like it was real cool too, guy is such a putz...fell hook line and sinker for the USF1 fiasco and can't get through a damn broadcast these days (practice, quali or race) without referencing the Austin train wreck like it's going to be the best thing ever. I'm always thrilled when Varsha is off dicking around at Barret Jackson or something and Leigh Diffey is standing in for him.
Like the rest of us he has to answer to those who cut his checks. Still it would be nice if we got the same implicit winks from him that his booth mates give when spouting drivel. Another example of how little the guys at Fox care about us.
+1 Having said that, they (Speed & pretty much all their NBC affiliates) were showing soccer at that time. Why? Because it was the final weekend of the English Premier League competition and all those games had significance on the outcome; The top four get to play in the European Champions league next year and the bottom three get relegated. [Oh, how I wish US leagues would relegate the turkeys, but that's a different thread ] Now, I realize the vast majority here will say "so friggin' what!", but I can only assume NBC's programming folk decided soccer would garner more eyeballs than the post race interviews, which they did air later in the day after all. Not happy about it though! And Varsha harping on just rubbed salt in the wounds..... Cheers, ian
Indeed! Although, it should probably be called something like "pimp my monster truck" or "look at my bouncing car" or something..... I really wish another channel would pick up F1 and cover it properly - Even license the Sky channel from the UK maybe? Cheers, Ian
Exactly ! I'm a huge F1 fan but I'm also an avid soccer (football) fan too. I didn't really care about the Chelsea game so I would have rather seen the interviews for sure. Varsha is a putts - Blackburn Rangers ??? what ? He said that 4 or 5 times.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that! Even worse was "The Blackburn Rangers". For those wondering, it's Blackburn Rovers Cheers, Ian
Last night I sent a message to Despain asking if he was going to highlight the soccer match for us on Wind Tunnel...no response, of course. It wouldn't be so bad if only they hadn't carved up the podium ceremony and dumped the interviews. I'll bet a lot of Maldanado's expat countrymen in the US are righteously pissed.
Nah! Just a coincidence on that one.... It was simply the biggest (final) weekend of the English soccer season and all the significant games get played at the same time so as to avoid any shenanigans of teams "helping" each other out. Hijack alert; I've just become a *huge* Bayern Munich fan! My team (Spurs) just squeaked in to the European Champions League next season by virtue of finishing fourth in the EPL. Now, I learn that if Chelsea win the ECL this year they take our place and we're out!..... I've never liked Chelsea, now I really want 'em to lose! FWIW, if you only watch one soccer game this year, the ECL final is the one! [Saturday, 19th May, 18:45 UTC] /Hijack. Return to normal programming Cheers, Ian
I'd love to see BBC America air the Brit feed but Rupert & Co aren't about to give up the rights. BTW it's putz not putts.
You can be happy for me if Bayern beat Chelsea..... Until then, you can share my nervousness if you'd be so kind. Cheers, Ian
Useless. I cannot believe that some here are defending the move. I recall plenty of screaming when the post-race was shortened for NASCAR programming, and that at least is motorsports.
Please don't get me wrong - I'm as pissed as anyone about it and didn't mean to defend it - I just wanted to try and explain the rationale. Cheers, Ian
I understand your rationale but I doubt it was what the Fox boffins had in mind. More likely a cross marketing thing.
