First off let me say I don't want this to become a political rant thread. Its just that from my 14 (looong!) years of the American education system I've seen and experienced more left-wing views then conservative views. Maybe its the teacher Unions... or the old saying "Those who can do, those who can't teach!" ;)

When everyone else was in school, or if you still are, do you feel the education system tries to mass produce government/buisness dependant workers (life long lemmings following all the rules etc) and not independant entrepenuers (risk takers)? I'm NOT saying if your liberal you stand around waiting for government checks. But though school systems rave about their spreading of 'free-thinking' ideology they seem to get upset and don't know what to do with a student if the kid is not conforming. Also teachers and counsolers don't encourage buisness ownership and extremely high salaries of CEO's etc they seem to want everyone to work for a 'large corporation' and have a 'normal' life. You know, the wife and kids life and an average house... maybe a Corvette in your 50's. They don't seem to be avid supporters of finantial independance or the 'top guy in charge' etc.

I don't want to upset anyone with politics... or the teacher comment. :) I'm posting this to see if anyone else has picked up on this... or if I've been in the system so long I'm losing it! ;)

The educational system exists, and functions, under the premise that rising through it's ranks will impart the individual student with the skill/knowledge/expereince to facilitate their assimilation into the greater picture.
The educational system is a feeder series for this "normal" life you alluded to; it's part of that "normal" life.
Whether or not you as an individual choose to prescribe to this recipe for "normal living" is open to the individuals choice (past the legal age of compulsory attendance).
Your comment re: left wing v. right wing views that may be espoused by individual faculty members, I believe, is irrelavent; it's not as though one frame of reference favors rugged individualism over being a limey cubicle drone. The comments made by faculty about their ind. political dispositions, etc are simply commentaries upon the overall picture within which they, and the institutions that employ them, fall within.
PS: How's your post about "socialist education," anyway?
Edit: I obviously haven't had enough edumacation and stuff...

Its about socialism because it seems they don't want any highs, or lows... if that helps. And I suppose your left wing-right wing thing is true. ...and the individual makes the choice comment is true too... your a smart man. I imagine you've had plenty of education. :)

Yes, NNO, I do need to get out. ;)

And remember this because it is at the very heart of the education "issue".

...AND those who can't teach, teach Education.
