As a newbie I read old threads every night trying to bring my old brain up to speed with the addition of a 308 to our collection. Having found a few problems I have been doing a major on the engine. Now I have just clearenced the valves and was about to re-install when I come across the sodium valve issue. I have a 82 GTSi with 27K on the clock. My question is this, how do I tell if the valves are sodium filled or SS. They do have that yellowish SS look but I have O time working on these engines so I plead my case to the forum. thanks, lostbowl

If you can pick them up with a magnet they are not SS. Ferrea valves used to have 308 valves as a catalog item. The importance of that is they will have the dimensions on file and can get a set off to you with a minimum of trouble. Replace them while you are there.

I wonder, isn't it the opposite?
