Took a lot of time to research the best "first Ferrari" for me. Im a longtime Porsche guy and still have a 911 Cab. My first Ferrari was a 328GTS I purchased sight unseen from Ferrari of Houston. Great car! My only complaints were lack of space inside "im 6'1" 198lbs and lack of power, just did not feel as fast as my 911. I now find myself wanting to fill a space in my garage with another Ferrari. I found 1995 348 Spider in a color I like and it appears to be in very nice shape. I know very little about the 348's and would appreciate any feedback on what to look for. I know the standard Recent service, belts and other V8 ferrari gotchas at purchase time. Im really just looking for 348 specific stuff. Also is there a history of convertible top problems with the 348 Spiders? I read alot of 355 and 360 spider power top troubles. Are the 348 tops power?

    Thanks in advance!

348 spider is a manual top - really simple.

There's tons of stuff on the classic 348 issues in the archives so search through to get a feel. I was shopping for a 328 but went for a 348 spider after driving a ts and liking the driving experience much more so than the 328.

    Cheers

Hello Andrew, I currently own a 348 spider and could not be more pleased. I have owned many Porsche 911’s and 3 930’s so I understand your lack of power observation. That said the 348 spider is fast for 1995 but slow in comparison to current market. The new Vette, Viper etc all are better performing cars. That was not the reason I selected the 348 spider.
The top is simple and trouble free. Takes longer to fit and snap the boot in place. The 355 has a semi power top that can be a problem but nothing major from what I have heard. 348 is pre-OBD so simpler and less cost to service. Valves still have to be adjusted so perhaps it is a trade of there. Engine out for service etc make it definitely more costly than your prior 328. I do my own service and find the car easy to work on, just my opinion. Great Ferrari to own and drive.

I am relatively new to Ferrari and FC, but I did a lot of research prior to acquiring my first last year. A little research especially on this site, which is excellent, will help.
I suggest you read Keith Martin's "Collecting Ferrari."
    See pages 70 & 103.
Has a lot of good info on the 348.

I'm a new owner of a 95 348 Spider. Most of what you need to know has been said above my reply post. Low mileage would be 6,000 or so. Higher range would be 20-25K. That's all I have to add. Great car! Mint condition low miles should run 70-75K from a dealer, 5K or so less from an individual, IMO.

AS STATED ABOVE, JUST SEARCH THE ARCHIVES FOR ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS. I HAVE A 1994 SPIDER WITH 105,000 MILES...ONE OF THE BEST CARS I HAVE EVER OWNED...FERRARI OR OTHERWISE. IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, STAY AWAY FROM THE VERY LOW MILAGE CARS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN DISCUSSED NUMEROUS TIMES, AND I AM NOT TRYING TO START IT UP AGAIN!! ON THE OTHER HAND, MANY FIND THE MILES ON MY CAR TO BE A LITTLE (OKAY, MAYBE A TAD BIT MORE THAN A LITTLE) EXCESSIVE. I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU LOOK FOR ONE WITH 105,000 MILES.(MY CAR IS NOT FOR SALE, AND I DON'T THINK YOU COULD FIND ANOTHER ONE ANYWAY LOL) GOOD LUCK!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND THE SPIDER!!

    No kidding!

I thought it was Azzurro, but the ad states it is Grigio Alloy (I love that color). I didn't even know 348's came in that color.

Plus the Challenge rims on that car really look great.
