Six months ago, I had a new Tubi exhaust installed on my '83 GTS QV. It is just plain too loud for my taste. The original cats were removed when the Tubi was installed, and straight-through test pipes are mounted in their place. My 308, at 25 yrs. old, is not subject to emissions testing in TX. A noise-reduction solution suggested to me: Installion of two small sections of glasspack muffler in place of the test pipes...a simple fabrication and boltin job, and much, much less expensive than removing the Tubi and replacing it with another complete exhaust system. Supposedly, this would reduce the sound volume quite a bit without ruining tonality, and would have a negligible effect on performance. Any comments and opinions most appreciated!
I have both original cats, but unfortunately one is totally and completely shot...$675 for a new stock-spec replacement, much more for a pair of low-restriction units. Putting cats back on would also have more of a flow-restrictive effect than the glasspacks.
