I agree totally - you are not alone. The 456 has such smooth lines. I've always liked the 456 and I think they are now a bargain. I mean, you can buy one for less than a price of a Mercedes CL - which coupe would you rather have?

I actually used to not think the 612 was that bad when everyone was flipping out about how ugly it looks, but I guess I have taken an opposite turn from everyone and I actually like it less and less every day.

    Just for fun.

Okay??? What's it cost to get both the Maseratis or the one Ferrari?

Company seems to compete with its self.

i must remember that this car is replacing the 456, knowing that this is a much needed upgrade.

Front end view looks like a 911TT.

Back end could used an Enzo-esque treatment with the rear lights - the way that the Enzo's rear lights are not fully enclosed in the body is awesome, and this bland rear end needs it.

The interior has too much aluminum. Should have been a two-tone leather.

Other than that, I like it!

I love it! Can't wait to buy mine. I figure I'll pick up an '05 in '09 for about $70-75k. I can hold out for five-six years.

The real question is whether the 612 will help accelerate the depreciation of the 456M's even further. Plan is to pick up one of those next year. Hopefully for less than $65k....

I've read a few comments about how the front end of the car look a little like the 911. Not surprising since Ken Okuyama, who designed the Enzo, the Rossa show car, and the 612, also worked on the 911 while at Porsche.

    LOL :))

The design is definitely growing on me. I first thougt it was a bit bland...as I did with the 456....now I think the 456 is possibly one of the most elegant cars, certainly of recent times.

But will that big toothy grin on the 612 improve with age?

I think the strange grille will look better when someone paints it matte black. I do like how it seems like the headlamps are just draped over the fenders, but this design lacks originality.
Maybe Farina was scared by the initial reaction to the Enzo, and decided to play it safe? I personally like the Enzo because it looks like a continuation of the F40 and F50, and its stunning in TDF.
As for this 612, the color doesnt do it justice, and the grille may need some changes. The interior IMO is a mess, it looks *GAG* Korean. Its like the interior desgners couldnt decide on wheather it should be elegant like the 456 or techno like the Enzo, so they just threw something together using designs from both.

The front fender lines, on the other hand, are the most beautiful Ive seen on any recent car, save the Maser 4200 and Alfa Romeo 8C concept.

IMO its the best looking GT today, but Pininfarina couldve done better, much better.

Wow I love it, but this is going to sound really bad and I know that I am going to get flammed for it, but it is a car you would buy your wife. Or have as a secod Ferrari. I have a 360, and it would be awsome for a everyday car. But it is alot of $$$ for a everyday car

so far the two Ferraris that Ken designed, Enzo and 612 (correct me if im wrong), havent really grabbed people at first as being amazing looking. when the enzo first came out, everyone was saying how ugly it was, and its the same with the 612. luckily, most people like the look of the Enzo in person.

i just dont understand why Ferrari had this guy design some of their cars. who designed the 550/575, 360s, and 456s? stylistically, these cars represent Ferrari more so than the 612 and Enzo do. although, i guess that the Enzo and 612 could be a paradigm shift as far as design goes.

by the way, i do like this car...but im not crazy about it. maybe when i see it in person, ill like it more

Okuyama designed it while working for Pininfarina. So it's a Pininfarina design. The 360 designer's an Yugoslavian at Pininfarina.

Interesting thing about the Enzo design. If you watched "Car Crazy" on SpeedTV last week, there was a segment with Ken Okuyama. He mentioned that he worked hard on a design for the Enzo that Luca subsequently rejected. Time was running out, so he threw together the current design in about 45 minutes. Just in time for a presentation.

i caught that segment with okuyama - he seems like a neat guy. he tossed off the initial enzo design in the cafeteria while he ate lunch after luca asked him to take it in another direction (i did not get the impression luca was bad-mouthing the initial design - he just wanted something different or he wanted that design for something else).

i'd love to see what specifically he put together over lunch - to compare it to the final product.

as for the 612, these pics are intriguing, but they're not changing my desire to see it in the flesh before i decide for myself whether i like it or not. i wish that weren't the case though - it makes me uneasy that so many people aren't grasping at the design is "WOW! a new FERRARI!" right out of the box. did the 355 design require people to wait a few years to "get used to it"? etc. etc.

i'm VERY concerned about what they're going to do with the Maranello replacement. at first blush, the 456 to 612 changes don't appear (to me, fwiw) like they're going to infuse the 4-seater 12 line with new life. i'm 110% sure it's a way better car than the 456, but it smells (based on what i know, which isn't much) like a simple evolutionary step. nothing wrong with that, but given the downtrodden performance of that line, i think it needs a real shot in the arm at a quarter-mil a pop. thus, my concern with the Maranello. i love the car to death but i think maybe they went too radically "to the right" in the shift from the Testarossa design - i hope they replace the Maranello with something a bit more "leftish", if you know what i mean.

    doody.

So this is what happens why the 575, the Panoz Esperante, and the Mazda RX-8 get together for a threesome. If they were looking for inspiration why not look to the 275 GTB. That front grille is looks like a large mouth Bass. If any of you have a deposit on one, I am sure it looks better in person.

Love the side and rear angles. Very fluid. But the front smile look I can't decide on yet. The interior looks like it belongs in a Nissan and does nothing for me. Sometimes less is more and that interior just does not match the flowing lines of the exterior.

how will this affect sales of Maser 4200GT?
The price difference might do the trick. Anyway, do anyone have a picture of the back seats?
It is looking good, but not yet comfortable with the smile on its face, the Maranello is also happy but just keeps grin.

Previous pictures have done this specimen no justice. It is superb, very masculine and athletic but reserved. I will definitely have one, Grigio Alloy w/Cuoio. One addition I anticipate are more aggressive rims. I'm sure there will be a number of Scaglietti options.

i should wait till i see it in the flesh to make a definitive statement of opnion but......right now i think its ugly. i am so glad the 456 is still around in plentiful numbers so that when i get the cash i don't need to dither about which 4 seater sportscar to get.

from the front, the smiling grill just doesn't sit right with the ferrari image. from the back, the lights seem out of place wiht the design. the wheels look too small.

like somebody else said in this thread, it doesn't have that appeal right out of the box.

I do not care for it either. The rear looks decent, but the side looks like a Panoz Esperante and the front looks... well, just like crap. If the front fascia did not look so much like 996 that got hit by a lagr flyung object I think the would have been great. I am sure we will all get used to it though as time goes by.

  25. The interior is awsome but the 456 had a great interior also, The front styleing is kind of wierd maybe bigger rims would make it look better but I must grow to like it.
