This thread is not to offend any Corvette owners. But there are some, who are hilarious down at the Corvetteforum, who think their upcoming ME corvette can beat any European Exotic.

In their own words, it will destroy the European exotics for just $100K.

Apparently, all the European supercar manufacturers are scared of the upcoming ME Corvette, and are desperately trying to increase the performance of their cars as we speak.

And, Enzo Ferrari was afraid the Jaguar E-Type would put him out of business in the early sixties.

    So, what else is new?

No different than certain FerrariChat members who do the same thing in reverse. Corvettes have NEVER been Ferrari competitors, both marques have their place in the universe.
As a Corvette owner, the back handed "bang for the buck" compliment is long in the tooth and no longer applies, the current Corvette is a GREAT car, the fact that you don't have to pay silly money for it is a bonus.

Objectively, the Corvette is a fine performance vehicle. Most of the "value" in an exotic these days is in the badge. In other words, pure snobbery. 99.9% of exotic owners will never use anything close to the abilities of the car.

Effectively, it did. Ferrari would not have survived as a brand without a buy-out by a bigger manufacturer.

The Corvette ZR1 already walks all over nearly anything on four wheels, so....

    Agreed.

No need to wait for the mid-engine vette, to buy an American car that will destroy just about anything out there!

... for a fraction of the price ;)

I find it incredibly immature that any adult would care if their car outperforms another or not, unless they are racing for money.

Sure, when i was 14 I loved 'stat racing' but I grew out of it by early 20s.

Especially when the vast, vast majority of exotic and sports car owners don’t use anywhere near their cars’ potential.

    Agreed.

Purely on stats, there are cheaper faster cars I could pine for than a 348, but those cheaper faster cars don't make my heart beat faster when I see one and think about driving it.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I really wish you’d stop with the 348. This nonsense really calls into question your judgment.

Spoken like a guy who's car IS out performed by something else (in the case of a Corvette, something much cheaper).
It's just the internet....it's just some guys talking....nothing immature about it....just boys being boys.

The C&D Lightning Lap is exactly what it says...
I find it amazing that, besides Porsche, everyone else in this test has to play the "My car's not about numbers, it's the entire package, blah,blah,blah.". Lightning Lap is a PERFORMANCE test, for PERFORMANCE cars. PERFORMANCE cars at $300 - $500K should NEVER be beaten by a $140K Chevrolet. Dress it up anyway you want, blame it on tires, blame in on the driver, blame it on the track, the proof is in the pudding.
Making excuses for incredibly expensive cars LOSING is the car guy's version of a PARTICIPATION trophy.

I’ve never heard of “Lightning Lap” and don’t care about it at all. I couldn’t tell you if a 488 is faster than a 720s. Once street cars got under 5 seconds to 60 I stopped caring. I suppose people who track their cars might care but that’s a small group,

If I do, I sincerely apologize.

Saying it's immature for "adults" to have performance conversations on the internet is kind of silly, IMO. That's what happens on the internet on enthusiasts sites.
Want to see immaturity, go the "F1" sub-forum here. It reads like an issue of "Tiger Beat" (jeez, how old am I?). These are same guys in this thread, with either creepy Man crushes on some driver, or outright hatred because some driver is faster than the object of THEIR affection. I'm missing the difference.

Yeah, I agree, but I think he was talking about the bench racers who take it a little too seriously. I'm sure Jerry will chime in if I am wrong.

I quit the F1 section 2-3 years ago. It's a cesspool of a ****show. I lurk every now and then, and it quickly reminds me why I left.

Comments must be taken in context to the thread they are in.

Our thread is entitled "Some Corvette owners' wet dream of a Ferrari killer under $100K"

This sets the context and tone. In this specific thread the conversation isnt about 'performance conversations.' The tone has been set as schoolyard 'my dad can beat up your dad' boasting.

My comment was in context of the thread, and I stand by it 100%

    No problem

Should I start a thread like:
"Ferrari owners find Ferrari purchase a good substitute for Viagra"

The "tone" of the "thread" is suggestive and obnoxious and you know it.

The moment the word "BUT" comes in, like: "I don't want to offend Corvette owners....BUT...

    Everyone knows what's coming.

I owned 4 Corvettes in my life. They were fine for where I was in my career at that time. I no longer aspire to own Corvettes, I do aspire to own a Ferrari.....simple as that. It is the obnoxious Corvette owners who are their own worst enemy and continually damage the reputation of the car.

I have had 6 ferraris, one a racecar, and I still own one. I have only owned 1 vette and I am still racing it because it can't be beat on many metrics. I have no interest in another ferrari but I will have the C8 vette as my next racecar. I suspect it will dominate in clubracing for quite some time where ferraris just don't.

While I doubt any European manufacturers are "desperately" trying to increase their performance, its not that unlikely that the top spec version of the new Corvette will indeed outperform many of the European exotics. Unless of course, your standard for "performance" is how many yards of Italian Corinthian leather are present. In that case, the Corvette won't be able to compete on the poseur scale.
