    Ferrari's product stategy boss, Guiseppe Bonollo, was talking to EVO mag about the new 430 and reflected on the 360 and how it's sales were split between 360 M & Spider;
"How important is the 430 Spider to Ferrari in terms of sales?"

" If you look back at the 360 you can see that once the Spider version was launched, sales of this model were actually higher than those of the Berlinneta. If you look at 2002 [it's 1st full year of production], for example,it actually accounted for 58% of total 360 sales. This isn't reflected in total production figures for the 360, as there were nearly 2 years of 360M sales before the Spider version reached production.
A total of 17,500 360s were produced over 5 years of production.10,000 were coupes, made up of 8,500 standard coupes, 1200 Challenge Stradales and 300 race cars. The remaining 7,500 were Spiders.
I would predict that at LEAST 60% if future F430 sales will be Spiders, even though we already have orders for over 2 years' worth of production [around 6000 cars"]

Let's see how these things compare.

The 360 is the first model of this chassis: 17500 all forms.

    348/355 all versions was ~ 18152 (8857 348's).

Guessing that Ferrari will make more F430's before they go on to the next platform, I'm guessing around 20k of them will be made.

Flip them while you can if that's your game. They're going to depreciate just like everything else.

This is actually interesting information. So it seems the production runs are as follows (in round figures):

    - 348: 9,000
    - 355: 9,000
    - 360: 17,500 (10,000 coupes / 7,500 Spider)
    - 430: 20,000 (10,000 coupes / 10,000 Spiders) (estimated)

They must have really cranked up production for the 360 spiders, because they only had 25% less 360 spiders than coupes, despite the spiders having only half the production life of the coupes.

Anybody have the production numbers for coupe / spider split for the 348 and 355?

Erik, what you are not including in your calculus is the increase on the demand side. Simply put, there are more willing buyers, i.e., aging baby boomers, in 2005 than there were back in the late 80s and early 90s when Ferrari was selling 348s/355s.

From my discussion with dealers, the first F430s are going to flip for anywhere from $50k to $100k over. In fact, the flip price might be higher because it is looking like so few cars are going to be filpped. Almost all of the initial cars are going to end users. So the situation will be similar to the Enzo.

Moreover, 360 prices, after dropping $10k or so, have firmed up, particularly for the coupes.

What are these...Challenge cars (how many of those are out there)? What about the NGTs, are they included in the race cars or are they even included in 360 production numbers?

    Just wondering...

LOL, it's the "end user" that does the flipping. As we've already seen from the OC deliveries, the "end user" flips it, and dealer takes their commission. And, they are indeed flipping already!

That's not what I'm hearing. Namely, the first buyers are planning on hanging onto their cars. Sure, some are going to flip, but not all.

In addition to the above confirmed cases, a couple of my friends plan to do the same with theirs when they come before the silly premium dries up. They also really want the Spider instead and doing the coupe flip now while the silly premium is attached helps them further in obtaining an earlier Spider allocation.

True, but when you aging boomers need to go into nursing homes, who is going to buy them? The kids are going to have to sell them to pay your bills.

Short term looks firm, long term looks like any other car.

Geeze, how old do you think I am? (Don't answer that.) I have at least another 20 years before I pull a HST.

While we are tallying up, does anyone have a breakdown of how many cars of each color were made? for 355 or 360?

The point of the EVO interview is that spiders sell consistently more than coupes, which is interesting.

That is way bizarre... when I responded to this thread, the vast majority of the posts I see now were NOT showing up... and when my post went in, it was still the same... mine was like the fourth post in the thread... at least that's how it appeared at that moment. Weird.
