    I think there are a lot of people who expect far too much from model car dealers. You would need more than $100,000 in inventory to stock just one of every Ferrari model availble.

    As a former dealer in model cars, I can't count how many times I was asked to get a BBR or some other hand made in a particular version or color, than the person didn't buy it. To some tying up hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory is no big deal, but the vast majority can not afford to have much inventory that doesn't sell quickly.

    YOU are the collector; the one who should be searching for the models that you want. It is not the job of the shop owner to do the "work" for you and spend his own money to do so.

    I fully agree with the last two sentences of your post. Searching for the model, whether it be on the internet, in the actual shop etc. is one part of the fun, finding the object of your desire and actually acquiring it for a reasonable price, is the rest of the fun.
