The best F40 LM in 1:18 is the one made by model plus Not cheap,(around 400 euro's) but very good www.modelplus.eu
JOEV: Sure, I'll get some pics up as soon as I can, perhaps tonight or tomorrow...after seeing the link from Moriaan1, I'm tempted to take mine apart and "attempt" to follow some of the styling of that expensive model (especially the rear wing). Joe
Hi JOEV: Thanks again for your interest! As I mentioned this is very much a work in progress that I had lost interest in. Here are some additional pics of the Blue F40 "LM" based on that Bburago kit. Most of the details have been done with paint, such as in the engine compartment, the front/back window frames, interior, etc. The widgets on the floor next to the driver's seat were made from plastic scraps...in fact the dark gray cylinder (ignore that LMP 1 decal, it should not be there) was made from one of those support pegs that the 1/18 Hot Wheels models sit on (between the model and the plastic base of the box). There is a variety of stainless braided hose, wiring, etc. I used extreme artistic license so those interior pieces are not based on correct research. The front splitter is made of plastic that I shaped (I should have covered it with a carbon fiber decal, as I did with the rear wing). Details I'm now considering include a tow ring and a couple of support poles between the splitter and the front bumper (as well as a tow ring for the back bumper). As for the rear wing (made of sheet styrene plastic) you'll notice it is sitting on top of the standard wing...the next step is to remove that original blue horizontal plane, and build and fit a proper LM wing. More parts I'll need to consider include locating the photoetched door window frames, with appropriate glass and sliders, proper, larger cross drilled rotors, fashioning calipers, detailing the wheels and tires, the list is endless. The obvious missing item, the huge LM ducts on the front hood...not gonna happen on this model The decals don't look as bad as I had previously described (the reason I gave up continuing the build), so perhaps I'll install the rest at some point. Basically, the only miscellaneous "transkit" type items I used included: the seat belt kit, cross-drilled rotors, carbon fiber decals, twin Intercooler covers, "Ferrari" emblem on the back grill, and scrap braided lines. Everything else was done with paint, the HW 333SP wheels/tires, aluminum tubing, and plastic scrap (the plastic rear grill was replaced with steel window screen material I had around the house...although not exact to scale, it sure beats the awful plastic grill that came with the kit. At some point, perhaps I'll start working on this model again... Cheers! Joe Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thanks for the pics Joe! I sure hope you finish this off because it is an excellent work-in-progress. I am very fond of the "Pilot" LMs and you have the makings of a great one. Clever idea with the 333SP wheels/tires Couple of links: Amazing detail shots of 1:8 F40LM from scaleautoworks:http://www.scaleautoworks.com/F40LMtranskitCDphotos.htm The Merikit transkit with the nice front hood: http://www.karmodels.com/ma1810-ferrari-f40-pilot-24h-of-le-mans-1995-pr-16159.html (I think Cavallino may have them in stock). Please post pics as you bring this model to completion (maybe you can fashion the ducts with a Dremel?)
Joe, I collect very selective. I buy 1 modelplus or Brianza for the value of 20 diecasts. Yes, they are expensive, but also Rare! I have been collecting for 20 years (started at 20), and over the years I only buy really special (expensive) items. I frequently sell older ones for "new" models, and If you buy the right things.....you can change the level of collecting in time... My collection is not to big. I rather have 10 to display, than 100 all over the house! Collecting selective (and smart), is my motto! A (factorybuilt)modelplus F40 will keep its value, because they only build around a 100 worldwide!
Wonderfull collection Joe!!! Congratulations. I didn`t knew the yellow 1:12 250 GTO, i have the red one, and i would like to get the others, do you think is possibel?! I had try ebay but nothing. How much do you think cold cost one ?! Hope you get soon the 1:1 scale!!!
Hi Paulo: You can try eBay periodically, once a week or so...or, this particualr website (www.cavallinomodels.com) has all four versions, Yellow, Red, and the two comp versions...expensive though due to the rarity. The #24 (Blue and White) car seems to be the one I see most often on eBay these days and prices seem to vary. Cheers, Joe
Very Nice!!! I need to show my wife this thread so she'll know how easy she's got it. Mine is a "closet" collection which unfortunatly received some major damage in the move to California
Thanks. Glad to do whatever I can to help promote "peace" within the home Sorry to hear about the damage during your move, I may be moving myself in the near future, so packing this all up is going to be a task... Joe
I also recently moved. I had all the little cars stacked in boxes, stored at my mother in laws house. Last sunday, I picked them up and I believe (I haven´t checked every single one) that they are all ok. (mostly handbuilt 1:43). They are now awaiting their new glass cabinets. Great collection btw 250GTE!
