I was at the race and thought I would share some photos. The track is very pretty with significant elevation changes throughout. The picnic sections (open grassy areas) are especially nice. The Indian fans are very enthusiastic and everyone working at the track was very warm and charming. Overall a great experience and a fun race. The only downside is getting to and from the track. Traffic was a nightmare.
BTW, during the podium ceremony, the biggest cheers were for Alonso. He was a huge favorite and there is no question that, win or lose the WDC, the fans recognize and respect his accomplishments this year.

Thanks for posting - Sounds like a good time!......

As for traffic, I'm guessing you've never been to Silverstone!?.....

As for the race itself, the usual suspects here claim it was a snoozefest..... I've tried saying a race can be good even if the leaders are hiding in the distance, but many don't seem to understand.... ;)

Cheering for Fred? Or cheering for Ferrari do you think? As I'm sure you saw (and evidenced by some of your pix) they remain far and away the most popular team out there - I'd be willing to bet that *had* it been Phil on the podium the cheers would have been just as loud.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Great photos - thanks for posting!

It does look very hazy/smoggy there.

The pollution is very real. Smells like smoke constantly. Sewage treatment seems to be a problem too as every once a while you catch a very nasty whiff.

The track currently hosts the FIM superbike race. Also, it is part of a large, very ambitious "sports complex" much of it still planned/under construction that includes a golf course, equestrian facilities, convention center, concert venues and housing. Very interesting area and I hope it is a success for them. Attendance was down this year from last but there was still a lot of nationalistic enthusiasm in being host for the race, unlike Istanbul.
