Why is it that whenever you pass anyone in Florida they have instant Road rage?
why is it when you want to pass someone in Indiana they conspire with the other two lanes of traffic and go exactly the same speed. 5mph less than the speedlimit?
Why do all people everywhere have to look at you when you pass them? I always stare at THEM as I pass them, it makes them really nervous, they will look down at their speedometer, pretend to look at their watches, adjust the radio, etc. I LOVE mind games.
Seems like whenever I pass someone they allways speed up. I have to speed up. It turns into a drag race. Finally when I get by, they ride my ass for a couple of miles then slow back down to 45 Why is that?
This is happening everywhere........... It didn't used to be like this 20 years ago. People would let faster traffic pass on the left. Now everyone is a control freak and people either take it personally that you pass them or just want to be mean. I'm convinced people know what they are doing. I've watched this many times as an observer several cars back from this behavior.
People act like as if you are cutting them off in line at Wal-Mart if you try to pass them on the highway.
I used to wonder why all the retired people in Florida drove slowly in the left lane with their blinker permanently on. Then I found out: it's not because they're retired -- it's because they're retired from Massachusetts, where everyone drives that way. But pass neurosis: People who are comfortable with themselves look inward for verification -- they examine their own accomplishments or ideals when evaluating themselves. People who make a career of turning papers in their "in" basket into papers in someone else's "in" basket are more inclined to look outward for vindication -- they compare themselves to a biased view of others. For some, "egalitarianism" is just hiding out in the middle of a faceless crowd. As long as nobody has a life, nobody has to feel bad about not having a life. Or: "if we're all living in the same sewer, we won't notice the smell". For others, cataloging the "faults" of others distracts them from having to examine their own. Inflated self-importance ("me first!!") used to be known as "overcompensated inferiority complex". You don't just see this on roads. Crowded sidewalks weren't a problem when I was young; everyone knew that other people were trying to get somewhere, too. Now sidewalks, malls, and office corridors are more like a child's game of musical chairs -- whoever takes up the most room wins. And watch the Internet: how many people "discuss" things by flaming and name-calling? They have to "prove" that they're right by sneering at everyone else? You used to see traffic merge. Now people are so psychotic about getting three feet further ahead that any place people have to change lanes becomes a permanent traffic jam. This may be related. When you clog traffic cutting everyone off, people are less inclined to want to have you in front of them, and are unlikely to let you into traffic. Have people become too stupid to remember that "what goes around, comes around"? Are people so deluded that each individual considers himself immune to the nature of the universe that impact everyone else? Has television degraded attention span to the point that people can't think ahead? Or have we just "protected" the children until they grow up completely without any confidence in their ability to face the universe on their own, and have no basis for self esteem, and even less regard for anyone else? Have we all become candidates for the "B" Ark? But, on the lighter side: http://www.wimp.com/rage/ (I love the bumper sticker )
How DARE you quote the whole long-winded post just to add a line!!! (joke) That's it! Caps locks at dawn at 30 paces!! (hmm: flintlocks, capslocks ...)
I would add the whole speed up to get in front versus slow down and get behind mentality. Nine times out of ten its easier to slow down and get behind someone than it is to speed up and rush to get in front of them....morons....oh....and they're on a cell phone when they're doing it.....
By the way, while driving around town I always make a point to let people in front of me, even when they are driving like total jerks. I point out the futility of the other driver to my kids. This will help them to understand in traffic you rarely get ahead by 'pushing'. In one generation if enough people taught this kind of thinking to their kids, the general rule of road rage would become the exception once again. There is hope for the future! BT
I think its just an instinctual thing about protecting their territory. It might happen but I wouldnt know, When I pass people I'm usually going so much faster even in my Navigator that I dont even have time to look at them
The one that pisses me off is when you leave a safe gap between you and the car ahead someone will allways fill it leaving me to slow down to create another safe gap for some moron to fill again, and so it goes on.
IMO... In general most people have lost the ability to think of others, show consideration towards others and have overall lost the ability to simply be polite. Go to any grocery store/supercenter, people simply stop their cart in the middle of an isle with no consideration or thought of the fact that there are other people in the sotre that need to get down the isle, pass you, etc. Life has become all about "me." Recently... I'm first in line waiting for the green. To my right there is another "official" lane for traffic, but the lane merges into mine about 400 yards in front of the light. Some jerk pulls up in this lane. Light turns green, he guns it to get ahead of me right before his lane merges into mine. Immediatley after cutting in front of me he signals to turn left (across trafic) into a gas station. Blocked by oncoming trafic we (myself and 15 cars behind me) have to sit there until oncoming traffic clears so he can turn left.....selfish jerk. No consideration on the roads, even here in the midwest.
Yea I hate that too, especially since my mom made me drive 5 below when I was with her. EVERYBODY stared like I was retarded or something. Great idea with staring back, I never thought about that and I'll definitely do it That happens to me a lot too. Another thing I hate is somebody trailing you for a while, then speeding up and passing you, and then driving slower than you so you have to pass them again.
Oh man, I thought this sort of stuff only happened here...I've driven to Abu Dhabi twice in the last two days, and it's sad to have to admit that they are actually marginally less psycho than Dubai drivers. Still, the inevitable happens, pass someone and they immediately speed up and pass you back. Fine, whatever dude, I'm on cruise control. Eventually you just learn to ignore them completely. Especially that guy who hangs out in the left lane, half a mile behind you, not catching up, until you move out to pass a slower car. THEN he floors it and comes screaming up on your rear bumper flashing his lights.
Yep, happens all the time. Someone is driving 50 MPH in the fast lane, holding up traffic for who knows how long. You pass them. Then they speed up (sometimes way up) to stay right on your bumper. Boy, it's sure funny how easily these clowns are manipulated. Hey, I'm happy to do my part to get these bozos to speed up and stop blocking fast lane traffic.
Florida IS America's wang......there's bound to be some pricks! Seriously though, I went to Florida for the first time last year. My impression of the drivers? The slowest I've ever seen at least in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area. 5 Days, 5days of the slowest drivers, I don't understand why.
