Way off of Ferrari topic but.................... Can someone please explain why to be in a Corvette it is a requirement to drive with your parking lights on in broad daylight??????? Sorry, just a pet peave and I'm on a rant. The Weasel Image Unavailable, Please Login
PAP I'm serious, today I was out with a friend in the Maser and I sware we counted just for fun 7 Corvettes in 10 miles with their parking lights on.....What gives????? I guess you NEED to draw that extra attention using a source of lighting... Why not do it the old fashioned way with just plain good looks.....(Pininfarina) I mean this all in fun of course.......But now that I've said it you all will notice for sure Weasel
Ian, they are the standard daytime running lights on all newer Corvettes that your friend is seeing. Personally, I run with my parking lights and fog lights on, on my 355 all the time, I am not sure why, but apparently a bright red Ferrari is still not very visible, because I have had numerous occaisions of people pulling out in front of me simply driving down the street... In my daily driver BMW, I have DRL's but prefer to simply run with the headlights on all the time. I would do it on the 355, but don't like the look of the headlights popped up all the time.
I know what you mean but not all were new enough. That does explain alot and shows a lack of 'Vette knowledge on my part ....Still looks stupid anyway... Thanks for the info
Since 1997 all vette run with daytime running lights. 1997+ vettes may not sound real good stock but they will beat you stock on any racetrack unless you got a 360. 2001+ Z06's will only follow a 430. No current Ferrari, challenge or otherwise, matches a current ZR1 which will do 7:26 at the Ring with only a GM test driver. My 348 lightened racecar was no match for my stock '04 Z06. My 348 routinely was faster on track than every 355 I met and 90% of 360's I met on track. I always got smoked by vettes even with a bad driver. I'm running a Z06 racecar now which is all stock except the cage and fire system and sticky tires. I am so much faster than stock. The potential with mods is way beyond anything I could have done in any Ferrari. I hope that helps you understand a little about vettes.
I have heard from Vette drivers, that if you try to remove the fuse for the DRL, that the speedo doesnt work, or maybe its the dash display or something stupid like that. At least some vette guys dont like the DRL look. I drive with my fog lights on during the day fairly often. I cant tell you how many times people pull out in front of me, including last weekend some self absorbed visitors from SF pulled out right in front of me at a red light, because they thought it would be OK to do that out here "in the sticks" and they didnt even see me. I slammed on the brakes, and flipped them off. The two women with mullets, did not realize that the extended middle finger and curled adjacent fingers, are an ancient phallic symbol, and an insult. They didnt recognize my gesture. Jay
Who said anything about speed? You can soup up a ricer for a lot less and be able to beat a Ferrari on a track, but at the end of the day, it's still Jap junk w/ no soul. Put a Corvette next to a Ferrari and see which gets more looks.
