Someone stole the front number plate of my 612 over the weekend, it is the first time this has happened, though I am constantly replacing tyre valve covers. The car looks so good without the plate I wish I could keep it like this though the police have now told me twice to get it replaced I think I better had.

Why on Earth would someone steal your plate(s)?

I understand the tire valve covers, or a really nice plate frame, but the actual plates? I suppose they can put them on other (unregistered) cars and use them illegally?

I had the front number plates of my Audi stolen once in London and another time in Berlin.
The 599 and the others cars had better luck (knock on wood).
Other people I know with MC plates had similar experiences.
I suspect that the motive behind the thefts is that Monaco number plates are considered "cool" souvenirs to have
The same is probably true for Gibraltar plates.

Seriously? Wow. Wouldn't surprise me, honestly. People have no respect.

This reminds me of when I was in high school....a time when kids thought it was "cool" to steal the mercedes hood ornaments and hang them on their gold chains.

I cannot lie. I did it. I thought I was doing you a favor. The car definitely looks better without the front plate. Surely you can out run the cops now that your car is more streamlined!

The law here unfortunately is that you must have front plates. I don't use the car really ever in Gib, just when I go across the border or travel back to the UK. Last year I did two trips to the UK and one to France, Monaco, Italy and then got the ferry from Genoa to Tangier. On one trip to the UK I took my girlfriend and her six Maltese dogs in the back, the car is incredibly reliable, all that I've had to replace are tyres, window switches (very fragile) and the bonnet release catch which was faulty when I bought it.

Do you have speed cameras? ... hope they haven't attached it to their car and now going back and forth past one and laughing their heads off.

Just wondering what happens in the UK if you get caught without a front plate? Is it a fine? Correctable? Is it possible to just keep it off? In CA it's a "fix-it" ticket and $25 fine. Definitely worth the cost!
