So it was a beautiful morning and I called my new partner, a fellow car buff, and we decide to take the SV/GT a few miles south into the AR mountains and have a nice drive. We are traveling down Hwy 71 which is a 4 lane highway with a 70mph limit when the radar detector goes off. I see a state trooper about a mile down the road. Now the speedo says 80 (which in the diablo is probably 75 at best) so I immediately slow down to 70. I keep it there for a few miles and all of a sudden the detector comes on full signal Not far away on the other side of the road is a trooper in the north bound lane. They were probably working together and the second car was using instant on. I don't think much of it as I was not speeding - honestly and I have a witness! A few minutes later I see this white car gaining on me at a high rate of speed. I knew it had to be one of them and sure enough it was.

Pulled me over. Officer came up to the car and asked for license and proof in insurance. He was very professional. Informed me that he pulled me over for the window tinting being too dark. Now I just got the car 3 weeks ago and this was done by the prevous owner and it has thus far been my biggest peev - very hard to see around tight left hand corners. Tested the window with his handy dandy doodad and it flunked with flying colors. I informed him that I hated the way it is and was looking for a reputable shop to remove the tint. He then commented on how much he like the car and "by the way does it come with a front license plate bracket." I informed him that it did not as far as I know, but I had the plate in the front boot if he cared to see. He went back to his car to check whatever it is they check and came back and said that he would only give me a warning but it would be in my best interest to get rid of the tint ASAP.

He then got a big grin and asked me about the car and said that when he radioded his partner to tell him that he was coming after me that if I decided to go he had no chance of ever catching me. He seemed to really enjoy this. He was very nice and was very interested in the car. Told me to see if there was anything I cold do about the front license plate as the city police where I live were really obsessed with this (I have lived here for 7 years and none of my cars have front plates). He then got a bigger grin and asked how fast I had ever taken the car. I replied, "Mr. Officer I would never go faster than the posted speed limit, SIR." He almost fell over into traffic laughing. He then asked me again and said it was off the record. We talked about the car some more and he sent me on my way. I told him where we going and he said we shouldn't have any problems.

I took off in with a heavy foot, but thought it best not do a burn out right in front of the trooper. Passed his partner's car a hundred yards up the road at 7000rpm and full song. We got a thumbs up.

We enjoyed the rest of our day, had an incredible drive and saw no other police cars. I hope these officers had a good day too.

    Awesome car!

Cops can be real cool..Theyre car and bike guys. When I used to ride and ride hard, we got pulled over a few times and usually the cops would lecture us (we were young) on how many horrible accidents they would see and to slow down and be safe. Most cops own bikes and fast cars.

I think the bottom line is there is a time and a place to mess around with our cars/bikes. Be cool and youll be fine as far as the law goes.

Not as flashy as your beautiful Lambo... but a story nonetheless

When I got my E90, I was one of the first ppl to take delivery... when I drove it down to Orlando, a cop pulled me over not to lecture me on speeding, but to tell me he was a lifelong bimmer fan :)

    Great story!

Cops in my area are fond of muscle cars.. I can b1tch about them but most of the time they let me off with a warning and a friendly chat.

Car looks great! Even with the tint. I think tint looks good on cars, but its a pain to see out of. Glad to hear that your impromptu meeting with the law enforcement went well. Enjoy your car!!!

I personally love tint, I don't have a real reason why. I could say that I don't like being stared at? I think tint gives cars a cleaner look..

I agree, I love the look of a car with heavily tinted windows. My Vette had limo tint all around when I bought it. Looked great from the outside, but was to hard to see out of. Went with something lighter. Interesting story, good to hear there are some decent cops out there.
