How's that sound for a thread title!! I've been on this forum for a bit over four years, and am another one who grew up on Miami Vice...the start of my obsession with Ferrari, namely the TR. I haven't been active in posting here, but read all the going-ons. You all have always come across as a super nice crowd, much in the same way as my airplane-building forum buddy's...so thanks for that! I've been building an airplane for almost five years now, and it should fly this summer! While I'm SUPER excited about this, it means the end of the project that has taken ALL my free time in the last five years, and I can't help but wonder what's next...I would hope that a TR is in my future one of these days. I do drive a mid-engine "sports" car...'93 MR2, which is a blast to drive. I even have the driving position set up "Italian", short legs and arms stretched...how's that for wishful thinking!!?? Anyway, just wanted to write some stuff down after not posting for a good four years... Any TR's in Central Illinois??? Would love to get near one again!! There is one in town, but it's sitting in a widow's garage with flat tires along side a Diablo and a Rolls of some sort. Sad, and inaccessible...
That's a great story!! I have a friend who's been building his own plane for about 4 years - with probably 2 to go. I really admire that sort of devotion - I'm very much aware of all the work and FAA inspections involved in such an enterprise. Do you have photos of the building progress? You really should post more - I'm sure you'll find LOTS of folks interested in seeing that plane over the years - especially in the "aviator chat" forum here. Jedi
Oh do I! They are all online, but I haven't paid for a Silver Subscription to post pics yet...my build log starts here http://www.chadandbrittne.com/RV-7.htm. I'll sign up for a subscription so I can post pics...
Please do - it's only $15 and there are a LOT of aviation nuts (like me) who regularly check the "aviator chat" section for stuff like this. I think you really have a LOT to add to the site. Jedi
Some pics of the build...notice the sweaty Ferrari shirt...;o) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
As soon as I get back on my secure network computer, I'll paypal the $15... I'll start posting more often...I'm less active on my other airplane building forums since I'm nearing the end of the build, so I can spend some more time posting here!
I don't have the dedication to build a model airplane, let alone a real one. What model Vans is your plane? If I ever get rid of my TR, I would probably replace it with a Mooney.
Since this thread is REALLY about a VERY COOL airplane build, perhaps the mods will move it accordingly. GREAT photos!! Jedi
Dear Ferraristi, Before seeing your photo, I was picturing some retired guy.... Since you're young, buy the TR....can't pick up hot young chicks with an airplane. Oh, and welcome out of "lurker" status. ....nice aluminum work.....like the attention to detail. ....you'll fit-in just fine here. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
It's an RV-7...I LOVE Mooney's! Have a bunch of time in various models. A good friend of mine has one (an older 201 J model), but he moved to AZ last summer, and I don't get to fly it anymore... Oops! Didn't mean for that to happen, but it should probably be moved now... LOL! Yeah...my wife would probably have something to say about that! ;o) Thanks for the official welcome from lurker to poster! And thanks for the compliment! Looking forward to spending more time here...
Actually most women are more impressed by an airplane than a car. They like joining the mile high club!
Dear Ferraristi, Hmmmm....I donno... ...can't do the roll up to the velvet rope in front of the club with an airplane Remember....the more attention she gets.....the more action you get. ....cause...dat's the way it issss....booooyyyy ( think flavor-flave here ) Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Man....while i admire your passion for airplanes. I fly boeings for a living and there isnt any airplane worth more than a testarossa in my eyes. I hope to have a TR one day. Congrats on your build though and BE SAFE..
Dear Ferraristi, Wow....lots of new folks here....all TR fans of course! Welcome to the board JLF.... Of course...a big "FREEZE...MIAMI VICE" out to you. Oh CJensen, I forgot to give you a proper "shout-out" welcome....my apologies! So.....a BIGGER " FREEZE....MIAMI VICE ! " to ya ! Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
No problem!! Funny your tagline is what it is...my username on the Miami Vice forum (yes, I sheepishly admit that I check in there from time to time...) is "Freeze!!MV!!" LOL!!!
Dear Ferraristi, You mean there's an actual Miami Vice forum? I thought the Testarossa section was it. Do you have a link? Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Thanks Shamile, i appreciate it i enjoy looking through here and drooling at your cars, i currently have 2 Porsches a 964 Turbo and a Cayenne but hope to have a 348 or TR someday soon. Are you in Atlanta, i would love to see your TR and maybe get a little ride as i have never been in one!!!
Dear Ferraristi, My GA homes are based in Lake Oconee....Reynolds Plantation & Sebastian Cove. I'm mainly based in Lakeland, FL. because of my business. If you're ever down here, come on over and we'll go for a ride. ...then we'll go for a blast in the Lamborghini. Yes, it really isn't like anything else. ...but you know my price... Phillwozza's daughter....haahaha....well, a tall, thin, blonde anyways. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Hey Shamile, I'll trade you a ride in my plane for a ride in your TR.... http://www.airliners.net/photo/Dassault-Falcon-2000EX/1512643/L/&sid=47c64b7fed460359a6be496aaca5b5d2 ...I'm sure my boss probably wouldn't allow it though....
JLF, I agree the only thing common between a Boeing and this little plane is that they both have wings! However a Boeing is nothing more than a huge computer controlled cattle carrying 18 wheeler in the sky, whereas this little thing looks like itd be a blast to fly! Plus it even has a flat engine like a TR, just 8 cylinders short. cjensen, I'll trade you a ride in your plane for a drive in my boxer! John
