Last night we had a C130 doing extremely low passes over my house in Grand Forks ND. Turns out they were spraying for mosquitoes (about time). The USAF C130 mudular spray aircraft came up from ohio and used it as a training exercise and the city only payed for the chemicals (win win in my book). Unfortunately I missed the chance for the best shot, I was sitting at home all of a sudden i hear the roar of the engines and imediately remembered that the C130 was going to be spraying and ran outside and low and behold he flew right over my head at about 100-150 feet but I forgot to grab my camera so i bolted back inside drove to the south of town and got these pictures.

Man was it a sight to see, he was throwing a plane of that size into 45-50 degree banks at 200 feet, those guys had balls to do that.

When I first started to read this I had visions of the 130 gunship. All I could think about was it blasting away at those little dead bugs.

My brother has a cabin on a lake near Cashiers NC. His cabin is pretty high on the hill. I was there one summer and a C130 came by one evening, just before sunset, right on the deck, not more than 100 ft over the trees, maybe, if that, diving towards the lake, going full tilt boggie.... Sweet. I swear I coulda looked into the cockpt and seen the pilots face... Bro says they come by "all the time"...

They apparently have a low level training route that goes right over his house and then across into the national forest across the lake....

Those boys take NOE flying to an art form...

How interesting ! A C-130 spraying mosquitos! Great way to do it and a good clear flat place for a C-130. In 1946 when I was working at the airport I helped with the airplanes that the county was using to spray mosquitos...good ol' Stearman Pt-17's. They were using a light oil laced with DDT carried in a war surplus drop tank. Spraying at 0430 can be hazardous not only to the mosquitos but to the pilots. We got a call from a lady who claimed that an airplane had hit her favorite tree " and just flew off." Shortly thereafter we could hear an airplane coming at low altitude over highway 41 leading to the airport. Making slow progress and whistling noises from the top 8 feet of an Australian Pine that was jammed into the leading edge of his lower wing. It didn't do the spar any good but it hung together. I remember when they sprayed over our place one morning and seeing the pilot make a pull up into a beautiful hammer head and come back to make his next run 100 yards away. A good time to be an ex-fighter pilot.

They were doing that over here near Langley a few years back. Pretty impressive to see that big thing doing what amounts to crop dusting :)
