J.J. has been hanging out with a friend from TCU who is a music composition major and they have been doing this ethereal, electronic music. He posted 5 of them on Youtube. He likes this type of music, jury is still out for me. What do you guys think? Kinda reminds me of the new age type music of the 80's.....

This is sure a lot different than when he opened for ZZ Top playing Hendrix's Voodoo Child on his tuba.....

Evocative of Eno, Fripp, a little Tangerine Dream maybe - much like the Musical Star Streams
syndicated show (now on Spa on Sirius/XM). I actually play "ambient music" as I call it
in the office to have sound without distraction. But unlike the artists I mentioned, J.J.'s
pieces are VERY short - Eno can take a whole CD with just 2 selections (Music for Airports,
for example). Unusual to hear such ambient stuff in "normal song" length...

Voodoo Chile on TUBA? Is there a YouTube for THAT? :)

Talented kid if you like really mellow space music, which is a genre in my very wide
musical interest range - he fits right in.

His very early experimentation with attempting to record some of this style. He knows his is pretty elementary at this point but he is really digging into more electronics to use to improve his sounds and lengthen the presentations. More to come later.

The only Youtube of Voodoo Child is an exhibition that the TCU band put on at a high school marching festival last fall. The camera is mounted on top the press box and is fixed so there are no close ups on the field. The band warms up onfield and then begins the show. J.J. is on the nearside 40 yardline with his concert tuba and is miked so he does come through pretty good. There is also a guitar to begin the song but J.J. picks up the lead and you can see the other sousaphone players gather round him near the sideline. This was an early run through of the show and was not complete by any means. They added another 6 minutes to the show with a crazy percussion exhibition a few weeks later.

He got to do it with the full show at the National High School Marching Championships with TCU as the exhibition band at the Fiesta Bowl two days before the game. He got to do it to open for ZZ Top at Texas Motor Speedway to open the season there. Billy Gibbons stopped him coming offstage and asked "are you the dude who just played those Hendrix licks on the tuba"? J.J. answered yes. Billy then said "That was really some hot sh*t man". J.J. thought that was a great compliment coming from Billy Gibbons.........

I just found out that the only thing he has used to record this is his Macbook laptop. He has several new songs that he is currently working on that begin to show more maturity in their depth. Still kind of different for me but he has already been befriended on MySpace by two very well known composers of this kind of music. Also was contacted by Daft Punk. Kinda cool.......Maybe someone else sees something about this kind of music........

Here is the link to his MySpace page. He has changed some of the songs a little and added one new one that I believe you will like.

His inspiration was Adam Young and Port Blue.....
