It's called the e9800 but it says on the box that it's only available in dentists offices... but it looks exactly like this one :) http://www.philipshomestore.com/product_detail.asp?T1=SON+9552%2F02&subcat=&menu=sonicare&SKW=sonelite&hdr=

I bought it at my dentist's office, directly from them, and it was an even $100.00. They said it would have been $130-$150 in the store. If your dentist can't get it for you as cheap as I got mine, I can get you one, just PM me. I'm going back there in a couple weeks.

I actually bought it Thursday when I went in for a periodontal therapy treatment. This thread was borne out of that "D'oh! Did I really just spend a hundred dollars on a toothbrush?" feeling.

But it looks like there's lots of folks with good results, so maybe it wasn't such a dumb move. ")

I just heard the greatest story about yesterday's game, I'll type it in that other thread.

Hey Dave, would it be a problem to get one of those from your dentist? I just got my bi-annual cleaning and am not due back for a while, but when I asked he said he didnt' sell any particular things.

If you can get 'em for $100 vs $150 online, I'll take one :)

I build tartar exceptionally fast, and my Sonicare has helped manage that. I am on my fourth one, and I do think it is a good addition to an oral care regimen. I consider mine money well spent.

I've had one for over 5 years and love it. I wipe it down after every brushing to keep it from looking grungy.

I'm a dentist. I can highly recommend the Sonicare brush. I think the Oral B competitor is good, as well. Bottom line, either one makes it easier for folks to keep their teeth clean. I have seen dramatic improvements in patients when they switch to a good power toothbrush.

I used a Sonicare for many years until recently, when I switched to the Oral B. Why? Because they sent me a free one! :)

Do you know if there is a special sonicare that is only available to dentists? I think that was mentioned. If I get the one online I want to make sure it is the best one.

    Thanks

I think it is a marketing thing. The one I bought at the dentist is called a 9800 but it looks exactly like the 9500 they sell on amazon. I'm sure it's the same damn toothbrush.

Dont waste your money on the "top of the line" Sonicare. Only diff is that it beeps more frequently and has other timing functions to let you know youve done enough. The cheaper models of Sonicare do the same brushing, just less timing functions.

I have used mine for over a year (bought the $50 model) and love it. I have to admit that I hate brushing my teeth for some reason and always have.. got case of gingivitis so dentist told me to get a sonicare. Been fine ever since and I use the new Crest Health toothpaste.. tastes gross but mouth stays fresh for a strangely long time...

Thanks, where did you find the $50 version?

If you don't like the taste of toothpaste, try the Tom's toothpaste. Mine is a citrus/orange. It taste better than the normal stuff.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just bought the Sonicare Elite 9500..and it is the best tooth brush I have ever used..wow just wow. It was fairly expensive 170 dollars canadian but it was worth every penny in my opinion. If you can...get a sonicare..

A sonicare is like a treadmill, It works but you don't need it (you can run around the neighborhood and stay just as fit for free). It won't do a better job than a regular toothbrush used properly AND it isn't a substitute for floss either.
The bottom line is if you don't mind spending the money, buy one but don't expect your teeth to be cleaner than if you use a Butler 300 Sub-G and floss correctly.

I've been using one for the past three or four years and my dentist can really tell the difference. Hardly have to floss anymore (except after corn on the cob or spare-ribs etc) and my gums hardly bleed when I go to the dentist for a cleaning. I do admit that it is hard as hell to clean and the replacement heads cost about 5 times as much as a regular tootobrush, but I wouldn't go without it. It is the item that I would have on a desert island...that and about 500 mile of extension cord. :)

You still have serious problems. Your gums are not supposed to bleed at all. This is the same as saying that your scalp hardly ever bleeds when you get your haircut now.

And you still have to floss.

I don't know - two years ago I went to a young dentist and he actually did the cleaning himself, he tore the crap out of my gums. Must have stabbed me 6-8 times!
