Saw the one-and-only Don Johnson today eating lunch with (someone I hope was) his daughter on Larchmont Blvd in L.A. (a quiet, upscale, quaint-for-L.A. street with shops and restaurants). A true cheesy Ferrari pop culture icon two feet away from me! Now all I have to do is spot Tom Selleck! (Hanging out with Eddie Irvine in after-hours L.A. night clubs is so yesterday...)

For a moment I thought I'd tell him about the whole Ferrari-Chat/I-use-an-avatar-with-the-shot-of-you-when-your-fake-Daytona-got-blown-up thing, but I smartly left him alone (although it would have been incredibly cool to get a shot of him next to my 308, which I happened to be driving!!).

    No sign of Tubbs anywhere...

Was watching the 'Calderone' episodes last night - you're right, the movie is completely forgettable.

I love the way they fling that "Daytona" spyder around.

I agree. Having never watched much of the TV series before seeing the movie, I decided to buy seasons 1 and 2 on DVD out of "spite" after being very disappointed by the movie. The series really is much more entertaining.

Hopefully they release the other 3 seasons soon...

Back in the good old days (mid 80s) a college buddy's parents used to live next door to Mr. Johnson on Starr Island, FL. We'd be rolling in from a night of partying and he'd be heading out....driving a white 928.

    Always got a wave from "Sonny"....but a 928???

The 928 was hot stuff in 198x.

Now it's a big German egg that eats water pumps.

It's a great looking car, but one thing worth remembering is that the kit car copies typically have power steering...the real ones do not, and on a front-engined car that size it makes a big difference.

I rented one of the kit Daytona Spiders as a weekend wedding gift to two friends...coolest wedding present that I've given.

I had a few Don Johnson sightings back in the day. I was working in downtown Oakland, CA, when the show Nash Bridges was in its prime. They filmed some scenes around Oakland's City Hall -- I think they passed it off as SF's City Hall on the show. Our building was across the street, so a few of us would go down to the street during our break and watch. Several Cheech sightings, too! :)
