Insanely boring. 1 through 5 remained static. Attendance was horrendous. Worse was Will's reaction with a race fan he 'bought' the tickets for. He might looked stunned, but it doesn't adequately describe his apparent indifference. Pathetic. Good thing he's talented behind the wheel.
I agree, boring race. The TV focused on the limited action in the back of the pack since that was the only place anything was remotely happening. Ho Pin-Tung was so bored he started to nod off, took a turn wide and gave us the only yellow of the race. I actually liked Will Powers fan exchange. You have to remember he rarely shows any emotions and speaks in a flat tone. happy for Helio to get a podium finish. I never expected him or Brisco to try for first. They "say" no team orders, but you just have to assume Brisco was doing everything he could to not let Dario pass. Congrats to Penske for the 1-2-3 finish.
I was so stoked for a full day of watching racing. Australian V8 Supercars - semi-snoozefest MotoGP from Indy - snoozefest IndyCar from Sonoma - snoozefest F1 from Spa So while I'm watching MotoGP, the idiots at Speed decide to break in and announce the winner for F1 at Spa. That's like telling you the last chapter in a book or how a movie ends. I skipped watching the F1 race. Oh well, it would have probably been the typical F1 parade. At least this way I could live in ignorant bliss that maybe, just maybe, one race might have been exciting.
the F1 race was actually pretty good, the first half at least. even the NASCAR Bristol night race demolition derby was pretty lackluster this weekend. ah well, you can't win them all.
CART/ChampCar/IRL has been on the skids since CART went public. Didn't they know that not a single successful professional sports sanctioning body has been a public company? And they hired that loser (can't even remember his name) to be CEO. Tony George had a pretty good idea (or somebody else did and Tony took credit) in making IRL a series for predominantly American drivers to help kindle more American interest in an open wheeled series. So, there are what....maybe half a dozen American drivers in Indy cars full time? Fail. It is incredibly boring. All spec car series ultimately are. That's the trouble with NASCAR...the cars are all the same, so fans have to find a driver, rather than a brand, to root for, and that has created the cult of personality that NASCAR is today. I really wish Penske and/or Ganassi would just pack it in and launch an F1 team that we could be proud of.
TG's idea was to get control of the series in the hands of a "benevolent dictator", a la Bernie (debatable) and Bill France. sadly, TG was said dictator, and intelligence was lacking even if benevolence wasn't. CART was doomed to fail; the inmates were running the asylum. The whole "American drivers in IndyCar" schtick was just that; a mantra to cover up what TG was up to. I do agree about Penske or Ganassi doing F1, they're the only guys capable of doing it from America IMO; but it's an uphill battle and Penske's already been there, done that.
Agree, but TG's "schtick" had a lot of appeal. Obviously, few knew what he was really up to. Yes, sadly Penske's foray had tragic results, and he's far too old to tackle an F1 start-up at this point, and his sons don't seem to have the same drive or instincts that he does. Ganassi could do it, though. Or the France family could finance such an effort. Of course they would only do it just to show that they can!
