Holy smokes... Its a beautiful car, but $44K+?

But on the other hand, the most expensive GT4 ever sold (at least what I've found) was during the "Auction des automobiles de Collection" in Chateaux de Versailles, Paris, Oct 1st 1989 ( <- notice the date? The good ol' days...).

    S/N: 15400 sold for $106,058 (incl. 4% buyer's commission).

If I am not mistaken, a few months ago a 308 GT4 was for sale (at Modena Autosport - not sure about this) with about 4000 Km on the odometer. Asking price was in the order of 60K euros......

I'm really suspicious about a lot of things on Ebay, especially some of the car listings. Some too high, others too low. Don't be surprised if this one comes back on in a week or two, relisted, saying it sold for $44K, buyer backed out.

But hey, if anyone's interested, my '84 Mondial QV has almost the same body style, even nicer looking with the Pininfarina styling, only 20K miles, Euro car with more HP, red on the OUTSIDE, not the inside. First $35,000 can have it. ;-)

    Regards,
    Steve W.

GT4's are selling in Canada for around $30K Canadian, but they need everything. Even if you get one for mid to high 20's you still have to sink another $10-15K just to make it safe. This car "Looks" good but who knows until you see it in person.

This is the sort of money your paying for a good gt4 down under in australia.$55'000AUD is about$38'500USD.I once saw an ad for a gt4 that had roo damage and he wanted about $40'000AUD-$28'000USD.(For those of you who are not australian "roo damage" is the term used when you hit a Kangaroo. If you start driving a couple hundred Kms out of the various cities you sometimes find them on the highways. Now when you drive a ferrari on a highway you tend to drive with a bit of speed. If you should hit a kangaroo, bearing in mind an average kangaroo would weigh over 200 pounds you could just imagine what damage was done to the front of a dino gt4.I must admit I never saw the car in person,I only saw the ad in the local car trader paper.)

Prices are definately rising. That's a good thing I guess, keeps the "Renter's" away (guys who drive the crap out of the car and then trade it in).

Roo damage! LOL I thought Deer were bad...:( My mom hit a deer in a Dodge Omni (remember those things?) and it was totaled. Can't imagine what a 200 pound Kangaroo would do!

    Dear Freinds,

Having found and loved my gt4 for ten years now I would not sell it for even 100k. I have 2 friends looking really nice early cars and they have had trouble even finding one in medium condition. The PO wants to buy mine back but I am smitten, I might buy another Ferrari someday (soon hopefully :) but I will always keep this gem of a car. I do not care what anyone thinks I think it is one of the most well balance, easy to work on, comfortable, great sounding. gas sucking, air gulping machine anyone could wish far. I love every other ferrai made but I really love this dino. Anyone who has had the pleasure to own or drive one will agree. I even think it is beautiful, after 30 years non Ferrari people ask if it is new, showing that the styling was very well done if conservatively.
If you disagree check out my profile and become a believer!

I do like my '76 GT4, but if any of your friends want to spend 1/2 of your asking price, I will give them a great deal :)
Just tell them it is a '76 with a Borla, runs like a top but susp. is a bit tired, no rust, nice interior etc... Not looking to sell, but for mid to upper 20's, I will entertain.

well, here are some q/a from the auction

I wonder if it actually IS legitimate??????

I am curious about "Someone out there REALLY wants it" comment.
If you look at the bidding pattern, the high bid was early on (and could have been even higher), and the second highest bidder kept bidding at the last minute, repeatedly, until he was either the winning bidder or (apparently) dropped out.
I would be VERY curious if the high bidder comes through, because it seems as though the high bid went for MORE than a "buy-it-now" price.

If the first bidder doesn't follow through, and the second bidder has been artificially bumped up in his price, then he has unfortunately fallen for a ebay stunt that I have been victim of.

"Questions from other buyers for this listing

Q: Hi Paulo - Look where your car is now. I can't believe it , I should have gone for the Buy it NOw price but oh well. I have been bidding but someone out there REALLY wants it so I am out. Best of luck. Looks like you'll have plenty to work with on your new Jag. If the sale doesn't go through I am still interested and my high bid was $40k . Nice talking with you , Rick Small

A: Rick, Thank you for bidding on my car. I'm sending you some more pctures. Regards, Paulo

Q: Beautiful car. Can you provide a more complete service description for the last major service? Thank you, Greg
    Answered on Aug-24-04

A: Replaced waterpump, cam belts, hoses, timing belt, tensioner brg, bearings and cover gaskets were also replaced and sealed. Engine oil and filter changed, coolant flushed, and it has new brakes and brand new Yokohama tires. The carburetors were rebuilt 3 months ago. It has a 2 year old electronic ignition upgrade. No rust at all."

I have noticed GT4 prices are rising quite a bit lately. In the UK they are up about 50% in 2 years. To be honest I am not surprised as they are a very underated car.

    I agree!

I have had mine 2 years. I've thought of trading up, but can't think of anything to upgrade to without spending 3 or 4 times as much. I am just glad that it's relative unpopularity made such a fabulous car available to me.

Robert, yours is a masterpiece. The standard at which other GT4's are judged, I just wished I have seen it already, but feel relatively comfortable making this statement based upon the pictures you have posted. Personally, I wouldn't take less than 30K for mine, don't care what the market dictates or says, if it is more---great. Less? Who cares? Most GT4's for sale are horrendous and not drivable IMO. Severely neglected. I saw one recently that was black/black and it looked like someone painted it with a paint brush. It was bought off of EBAY reportedly. The suspension system was completely rotted and unsafe to drive. Can't believe someone actually bought it and is driving it. Parts car for sure, but not to drive.

Sorry to hear the nazi's are comtemplating the rolling 30 year rule, it doesn't surprise me, that is why I am always buying used smog stuff on EBAY when the price is right. I don't trust tree huggers as far as I can throw em. I hope they don't. There are no substitutes for webers. NONE.
