Hi folks!, I'm new to this chat room & I am just about to embark on a dream of a life time. I am almost 42 years old & I have always wanted a 328. Well I am just about to buy one but I need your help. You see I could leap-frog my dream & buy a 348 or even a 355 but there is something about the 328 that has always done it for me. So all you 328 owners out there tell me why I should stick to my guns & get the 328 over the more modern versions. I heard something very interesting the other day from an owner of several Ferraris, he said "You don't garage them, you stable them, you don't take them out for a drive, you exercise them". Hey maybe he was taking this Cavallino Rampante thing a little too serious!. I would love your input. Thank you in advance.

Are you in Australia? (Fill out your profile)

if so, an Australian 328 is an anomoly. They have the US and Swiss spec engine which means cats and a low 255 BHP engine. While the UK/Euro cars are cat free and have 270BHP. This may seem a small amount but the torque difference is remarkable too, and a UK 328 is dramatically faster than an Aus spec 328...

BUT, if that doesn't bother you much, ALL 328's are lovely cars to drive, and such a classic line.

An AUS spec 308 QV would have simliar or even slightly better performance, and cost a little less.

or how about a carbed 308?

328's are great. Really nice cars that you can enjoy to their limits and gain huge satisfaction from doing so.

348 and 355 are quite different to drive.... to explore the limits of these cars is quite daunting and certainly dangerous in comparison to a 328.

If you want a 328, the biggest problem that you will face is finding a GOOD one. They are very user friendly cars and as such, many have done big miles and suffered many owners. I personally would avoid English cars (more power or not), as they are invariably full of rust.

My wife still hasn't forgiven me for selling my 328 10yrs ago. It is the only Ferrari I have owned that she was perfectly comfortable driving.

I personally would buy a 355 if you can stretch that far. The 328 will feel fairly insipid compared to modern "normal" cars in the performance stakes. A 355 is the first of the modern "daily driver" Ferraris. They really are a great car. Getting harder to find decent examples of these too!

have driven a few 328s and found them to be very easy to drive fast with lots of feedback. As 360C says the 355 is the first Ferrari with brakes and all the modern options we are use to.

If you are after the classic egg-crate grille, round tail-lights, gated shift, induction from carbs noise, then a 308GTB/S would be hard to go past but the 355 is the truly last pretty Ferrari with a great sound and all the classic features bar the induction noise.

I would also seriously consider looking at how close the windscreen is to your head in 328GTS (mine worries me in the QV) as an accident of minor proportions could leave your head in trouble.

I think the power of the 328 is more than adequate for the roads of today and makes great sense, if any Ferrari can make sense. They can still top 240kph and handle incredibly well and unless you're Fangio you will not get any more enjoyment from having one of the faster cars, you have to be a good track driver like some of the boys here to get to use the full capabilities of a 355 or 360 but a 308/328 is well within normal people's grasp of attaining 9/10ths of the cars capability and t100% enjoyment.

Just as an aside, the bills from a 328 wil be far less than the 355 onwards

I can't really add to the truly excellent replies already given.

And I think it is a simple matter anyway when the 328 is your lifetime long dream.

Care to share any details of the particular car yet?

    regards,
    Pete

If it really is a life long dream, then does it really matter how reliable, expensive, fast, broken it is? You will be spending money on it nomatter which model you get and yes granted the 355 is prob in another league will it really satisfy u not getting the dream model you want? Sure make sure you dont buy a dud but I say get the 328, if the dream becomes a nightmare then buy a 355, but when you look back in 10-20yrs time u might regret not getting that model you always wanted.

Goodluck in whatever you choose :)

Dear fellow F lovers, maniacs & fanatics,

I very much appreciate the comments you have posted, it's wonderful to be able to read comments from other F owners & not just what you read in magazines & newspapers. Attached (hopefully) are pictures of the 328 I am taking a look at this coming Tuesday. I know pictures don't really tell the story but on face value you must admit it looks sensational! It has a full service history & has 68000kms since 1988, also an aussie delivery. Thank you all.

Looks ok, from the pics I can see it's an early Aus spec car, but I don't like the wheels on that particular 328... it dates it some how...

Now, I have a F/glass 308 in the shop right now with the correct 328 wheels fitted, and the guy wants something else....

so if you buy that car, let me know if you want the correct wheels for it!! I can see a mutually beneficial trade......

I was told it has factory 17inch 3 piece wheels and factory tubi muffler. Does anybody know if this model was originally sold with these options? Cheers.

they weren't sold with those options but a lot of people put tubis on these cars, my QV has an ANSA muffler which is factory but tubi is not factory and neither are those wheels.

I think the pre-89 wheels are the best (concave) the 89 wheels were ugly (convex)

Nice looking car, that's the old Euromarque building isn't it ?

Nope. No wheel option offered for 328, and Ansa sports exhaust was offered, but was mild steel... moretti's QV has one, and they rust badly.

A couple of good copies in stainless of Ansa factory sports exhaust are available.

oh... they're 17" wheels... not interested now... only want 16's for the 308. (Tyre choice/originality)
