I have spent the better part of today trying to find new struts for the front "trunk" on my TR. I am getting the trunk and front bumper repainted so it is very easily accessable right now obviously. I have went to rockauto.com and mcmaster.com w/ no luck (searched the archives for these). I also went to sachsna.com and was told that they are not in stock and would be 6 weeks from Germany. They said to try Pep Boys (one of their distributors). I did so and was told that they do not stock #SG337001 nor SG337002 (the 2 part #'s for TR's). I went to NAPA and after sitting at the counter for 25 minutes as they poured over their books, no luck (I'll give them credit for trying). Does anyone know where I can get a set of these lift supports for my TR in a timely fashion?? Thanks, Jerry.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but FYI - I got mine from the local Ferrari dealer - They were in stock. Probably not the best price route, but I'm lazy. :)

I want to say they were about $65 each.

I'll try the F dealer as a last resort, but I was told if I could find them from a Suchs supplier, they would be less than 1/2 the dealer price. Remember, I'm a Hollander :)

Jerry -- Are you sure about those Sachs PNs (I thought those shown in your post are for the engine bonnent gas springs -- left and right are different so that's why the two numbers)? Aren't the gas springs for the TR front hood SG437003?

No, I'm not sure Steve...I was given the same #'s twice by 2 different reps at Sachs so I assumed they were correct. I'll try your part # tomorrow, thanks. I could not figure out why there was a L and R when he gave me the #'s but now it makes sense.

The "trunk" in the front and the engine in the rear adds to the general confusion IMO. I'm fairly sure it's the SG437003 for the TR front -- the rockauto site gives them as 10.08" extended and 6.73" compressed which is the right size ballpark.

Sounds spot on for the size. Truth be told, had I known it was going to be such a PITA, I would have just ordered from the dealer and been done with it.

The above part # is correct. I ordered them from RockAuto last Sept and it was just shy of $50 ea. shipped. Also, there is no left or right for the front but cars after #76000 use another support so check your vin.

I originally ordered them from RA last April and got the same backordered from Germany response. I waited until they came in(Sept) as they were half the price the fcar dealer wanted.

The numbers in the first post are probably for the the engine cover supports which would have a right and a left.

Jerry - what's the s/n of your car? You need 61496700 up to 76000, and 61571600 from 76001 onward. If I remember correctly, the former is about $100 at FNA, and the latter is around $75.

I've tried calling my local Sachs rep here in North Carolina too -- just trying to get some 348 struts for my personal use. Boy, was that a waste of time... the dude was no more interested in talking to me, than he was interested in licking the butt end of an Iraqi camel on a hot day.

Looks correct. My Vin # is 76097 & I am looking at my receipt from Ferrari of Orange County. The part # was 61571600 and were $63 each.

Jerry, I've had 3 struts re-gassed by a re-gas shop (as recommended by local Ferrari dealer). You should be able to find one somewhere, given the number of struts used on all makes of car these days.

It's quick (1-2 days), definitely cheaper than buying and keeps the original parts on the car. Make sure you ask for new seals as well. The part code on the strut gives the gas-man info about what Nitrogen pressures to use.

I replaced mine last year, went through the same thing trying to figure out which ones to get. This is what I found out (Fronts only):

Sachs/OEM part # is SG437003 (As stated above)
NAPA part # is 8195573 @ $21.99 each. These are the same length as the OEMs, and are "rated" higher than the OEMs. Except the openings are a little larger than the OEMs, thus not exactly a perfect fit. But they are still working after a year. Hope this helps. :)

Glad to hear I was able to help :)

FYI, from what I have read and was told, due to the placement of these struts and the size of them, they tends to go bad after a year or a winter or so (At least with the OEMs in the past). The cold weather will do a number on them, I have noticed that they will not function right after I had taken the car out during winter. However, they will return to function after the car is in the garage and temperture goes back to "normal", or you may have to hold the hood up for a minute or so (I am not sure why, maybe the struts needs to get air in them??) during the colder months before they will hold. Anyway, so far so good (knock on wood).

I have the NAPA ones too on a 512 and find them much stiffer. You really have to lean on the hood to get it down and lift up. They feel like they will last much longer than the 12 months I had from my last set of OEMs. Fitted by the dealer too!

What's everyone got against getting the struts re-gassed? I mean they don't really wear out, it's usually just that the gas leaks out past the seal. It is very simple job to re-pressurise & re-seal them, and you DON'T have to go searching around for a replacement (which may end up not being correct.) The OEM units remain with the car.

We regas the A/C and refill the tank with petrol, why not just re-pressurise the struts? Don't you guys have re-gassing shops around?

    Cam -

I looked around for a re-gassing shop locally after reading this thread and could not find one. I ordered the NAPA replacement struts for my car and when I picked them up, I asked the staff if they had ever heard of re-gassing these units. None of them had ever heard of it.

Charleston's not a huge city (about 400k people), but I would think we're big enough to have something like this if it were common.

I asked in dallas some of my buddies that own auto repair shops and they say that they have never heard of anyone that regasses the struts.
