Does anybody out there have...or can make....a sound clip/video of a Testarossa with the old discontinued Borla exhaust system? I may be purchasing just such a system. I've contacted Borla and they basically don't have anything. Thank You in advance for your help.

Sorry no sound clip, but I do have a Borla on my 90 TR. I've listened to a few different exhausts and its kinda mid-range in it's loudness. There's a lot better out there and I have often considered changing.

On the positive side, they are well made and a neat fit, despite having 4 individual mufflers rather than the normal (eg Tubi) single large one.

    Hope this helps,
    Steve

Thank You SteveTR for the personal impression. I'd heard from many at a track meet that the Borla was considered one of the best EVER for a TR. I don't know what criteria they based that on however. Loudness is important to me...and so it the pitch. I've heard a custom exhaust that was basically a copy of the Borla, and it actually sounded like an Indy car. Some cars have a more "raspy" sound where you can here the individual cylinders more, and some have a "hummm" sound where there is little change in the exhaust note. Would you classify the pitch as "deep", midway", or "high"? I realize that this is opening a can of worms asking for such a subjective opinion. But there aren't many who can comment on one of these systems first hand. Thank You Again.

The Borla is really quiet at idle or low revs... people have actually commented about how quiet it is. There's no rumble like you get with a Tubi on the 8 cylinder cars, for instance.

I think the best description I can give of the sound as the revs rise, is a 'roar', and quite a deep one. There's certainly no high pitch element to the sound. When the car is stationary and you are standing alongside as its being revved, the exhaust sound still doesn't totally disguise the sucking of air into the intake and you don't feel yourself automatically raising your hands to cover your ears.

As I say, last week I heard another exhaust and it was MUCH louder, so maybe I've been spoilt but I do know that the TR is capable of more! Though I suppose not everyone would want to upset their neighbours that much!

Stevetr....I assume your car does NOT have catalytics in place? It sounds like I may be in for a disappointment if I install the Borla on my car. Maybe I can substitute the mufflers for something else? Like a chambered pipe or a "glasspack" type stainless muffler? We'll see. I appreciate all your comments and observations!

    STEVEF,

I have heard the sound samples of the Capristo for the 512TR from the Capristo for sale on Ebay and in no way does it sound as good as the Fuchs on your car. Steve you are bored. It would be crazy to change. Hence the saying - If it ain't broke don't fix it. The Fuchs is probably the most impressive sounding exhaust available for the 512 today. If you still want to improve on it I suggest swapping the stock cats on your car for a set of Hyperflows. The result would be a louder rawer exhaust note as well as an extra 20HP or so. It's the nearest thing to having a set of test pipes.
