I REALLY enjoyed a ride in a 355 GTB the other day and was surprised that the engine seemed a little quieter than what I expected based on youtube videos and the movies.

It was my first ride in an F-car. It had a tubi. The windows were closed. The owner took it all the way up in the rev range several times in the short trip. Trying to figure out if a GTS with the top off let's you enjoy the engine noise more. What do you guys think. I know it was a 355, but I figured it compared to the other GTB models as well.

I had a 911SC coupe / sunroof with a B&B exhaust and it seemed louder for some reason.

I normally enjoy driving sports cars with the windows down and the sunroof open so I know there was a difference in this comparison.

Is the GTB generally quieter across the range for the 328, 348, and 355? Do the spider 348 and 355 really open up the noise level over the gts targa?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

On a 308, a 308 GTB QV is quieter than a GTS QV. Both were US Spec.

roll the windows down on a 'B'...better yet, windows open, drive under an overpass(at redline) or along side a concrete wall, such as an access road beside an over pass...LOTS o' volume then.

All I can say is that in any other car I own, I always have the stereo system playing.

In my GTB (with Tubi) I never do--because I have all the beautiful music I need. There is nothing like that engine sound. Awesome.

We have the benefit of having RHD cars. With the window down you can hear those webers sucking in heaps of air (Carby cars only of course). OH, music to ones ears.

Unfortunately for most of you guys only your passenger gets to hear it.

The plus for you guys mind you is that you do hear more of the engine having been a passenger in RHD car.

I hope I haven't confused everyone. LHD, RHD...... Driver/passenger. :D Ah either side they are good. :D

the coupes will always seem quieter...there's all that roof stuff getting in the way of the sound. even with the windows down, it's not like a convertible.

Regardless of the exhaust system, GTS is louder than the GTB (having driven both). I drive with the windows down most of the time for the engine sound. Giving up some of the exhaust notes to the S is the price you pay for having a B, but that extra rigidity makes it all worth it touring the canyons, in my opinion.

I always drive leaning over well onto the passenger seat to attain the extra aural gratification.

If you think its noisy inside, get behind the car. Like most of you I own a lot of cars, and my 85 GTS is noisy inside and out.
I was at the North Florida Ferrari meet a few months ago and I complained to several others that mine seemed louder than the rest, after a few started their engines, it was confirmed, mine is louder than ther rest....and it's all stock.
